Warning Summary at issue time
Flood Warnings are current for various rivers.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high near Tasmania extends a ridge along the east coast of Queensland. A
broad area of low pressure lies over Central Australia, with a surface trough
moving slowly east over western parts of the state. A weak trough is moving
northwards through the eastern Peninsula.
Forecast for the rest of Sunday
Patchy rain and scattered thunderstorms over the west of the state with local
moderate falls about the southwest. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the
tropics, especially about the western Peninsula. Isolated showers along the east
coast, becoming scattered north of Cardwell and rain areas with thunderstorms
north of Cooktown with moderate to heavy falls. Fine over the eastern interior,
with some light patchy rain across southern districts. Light to moderate NE to
NW winds, tending moderate to fresh SE to E along the east coast.
Forecast for Monday
Patchy rain and scattered thunderstorms over the west of the state, slowly
moving east towards the Darling Downs in the afternoon. Isolated afternoon
showers in the central and southeast interior. Isolated showers and
thunderstorms over the tropics, becoming scattered with rain areas and moderate
to heavy falls about the northern Peninsula. Isolated showers along the east
coast, though scattered north of Cardwell. Light to moderate NE to NW winds,
tending moderate to fresh SE to E along the east coast.
Forecast for Tuesday
The upper trough will weaken over the east of the state, causing the
thunderstorm activity to decrease slightly. Isolated showers and thunderstorms
from the northwest to southern interior, scattered about part of the Gulf and
Maranoa and Warrego districts. The ridge along the east coast should maintain
the showers for much of the coast. Isolated afternoon showers about the
southeast interior, fine for remaining eastern interior districts. The monsoon
trough will be located over Torres Strait, with rain areas over the northern
Peninsula.
Forecast for Wednesday
The next upper trough will amplify into southwest Queensland, increasing
instability and generating showers and thunderstorms from the north and
northwest to the southeast interior of the state. Some patchy rain in the far
southwest will accompany the upper trough. Isolated showers along the east
coast, with isolated afternoon showers about the southeast interior.
Forecast for Thursday
The next upper trough will amplify further as it moves into central parts of
the state. Increasing instability will lead to showers and thunderstorms in the
west and southern interior, tending to rain areas in southern parts of the
state. Isolated showers along the east coast, with isolated afternoon showers
about the southeast interior.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
The ridge should persist along the east coast, maintaining showers about the
eastern districts south of Bowen. A surface trough should linger over the
state's interior, producing showers and thunderstorms for the interior, though
weakening on the weekend as the atmosphere begins to stabilise. The monsoon
trough should remain near the Torres Strait region and is expected to continue
producing scattered showers and thundery rain periods over the Peninsula
district.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Monday.
