Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Dec 17/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high pressure system southeast of Tasmania will drift eastwards across the southern Tasman Sea during the weekend. A low pressure system at the head of the Bight will move to the south of Adelaide by early Sunday then further south on Monday. An associated trough will enter western Victoria later on Sunday before moving across eastern Victoria on Monday morning. Another high pressure system will drift to the south of Tasmania on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Forecast for the rest of SaturdayIsolated showers and thunderstorms, mainly near the ranges, tending to patchy rain in the west. Warm with moderate to fresh east to northeasterly winds.Sunday 18 DecemberA band of rain with local thunderstorms extending from the west to reach most areas in the afternoon or evening but only patchy rain reaching the far southeast. Locally heavy falls in the north and west. Mild to warm and humid with generally fresh northeasterly winds, strong at times over elevated and coastal areas. Winds tending moderate northwest to westerly in the west late in the afternoon and evening.Fire Danger -  Moderate to high.Monday 19 DecemberRain contracting to the far east during the morning. Scattered showers to follow in the south and east but becoming fine over the northwest. Isolated thunderstorms in the central and eastern areas contracting to just eastern areas during the afternoon. Mild with light to moderate southwesterly winds extending throughout by the afternoon.Tuesday 20 DecemberIsolated showers in East Gippsland. Patchy morning drizzle in remaining southern areas, clearing to a dry cool to mild and partly cloudy afternoon. A fine, mild to warm and mostly sunny day in the north. Moderate to fresh south to southeasterly winds.Wednesday 21 DecemberIsolated showers or drizzle over Gippsland. Patchy morning drizzle in remaining southern districts. Fine and mild to warm in the north. Light to moderate east to southeast wind, fresh about the coast.The next routine forecast will be issued at 5:00 am EDT Sunday.Product IDV10310
