Australia -- New South Wales Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Dec 17/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A slow-moving high pressure system over the southern Tasman Sea is maintaining a ridge along the New South Wales coast. Meanwhile, a broad low pressure trough is gradually approaching from the west. Between these systems, northerly winds are bringing increased humidity to the state's west, leading to the development of rain areas and thunderstorms. The trough is expected to reach eastern districts later on Sunday and Monday before stalling in the northeast, with conditions generally clearing in it's wake as the next weak ridge moves overhead.
Forecast for the rest of SaturdayRain areas and isolated thunderstorms in the western inland, mainly near the South Australian border. The chance of showers about the southern ranges. Fine elsewhere. Southeast to northeast winds.Sunday 18 DecemberRain areas in the west, with thunderstorms in the far west, clearing from the South Australian border in the evening. Cloud increasing in central and southeastern districts, with patchy rain developing later in the day. Possible showers about the far north coast in the afternoon, otherwise fine in the northeast. Southeast to northeast winds near the coast. Northeast to northwest winds inland, with a late southwest change in the west.Monday 19 DecemberScattered showers in central and southeastern areas, with isolated thunderstorms developing, shifting to the northeast during the day. Fine and mostly sunny in the far west. Northeast to northwest winds ahead of a southerly change in the south and west.Tuesday 20 DecemberScattered showers in the northeast, with the chance of thunderstorms over the northeast inland. Possible showers about the southern and central coasts and adjacent ranges. Fine and mostly sunny in the west. Northerly winds in the northeast. Southwest to southeast winds elsewhere.Wednesday 21 DecemberScattered showers in the northeast, with the chance of thunderstorms over the northeast inland. Possible showers about the southern and central coasts and adjacent ranges. Fine elsewhere. Northerly winds in the northeast.
