Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Dec 16/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high pressure system will pass to the south of Tasmania early Saturday before drifting eastwards across the southern Tasman Sea during the weekend. A low pressure system will develop near the Bight early Saturday before moving to the south of Adelaide by early Sunday. An associated trough will enter western Victoria later on Sunday before continuing across the remainder of Victoria on Monday. Another high pressure system
will drift to the south of Tasmania on Tuesday.
Forecast for the rest of FridayIsolated showers and thunderstorms near the ranges, mainly over the east. Light to moderate east to southeasterly winds, fresh to strong along parts of the coast.Saturday 17 DecemberIsolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms near the ranges. Patchy rain and isolated thunderstorms developing in the west later then increasing overnight. Warm with moderate northeasterly winds and coastal seabreezes.Fire Danger -  Moderate to High, reaching Very High in the northwest.Sunday 18 DecemberA band of rain with isolated thunderstorms extending throughout except the far east. Mild with moderate to fresh northeasterly winds, strong at times over elevated areas ahead of a light to moderate westerly change in the far west later.Monday 19 December
Rain contracting to the far east by the early afternoon. Scattered showers to follow, particularly in the south.
Isolated thunderstorms in the central and eastern areas. Moderate to fresh west to southwesterly winds extending throughout from the west.
Tuesday 20 DecemberScattered showers in Gippsland becoming isolated and contracting to the far east. Isolated drizzle in the southwest clearing by early afternoon. Fine over the north. Mild in the south but warmer over the north. Moderate to fresh southerly winds.The next routine forecast will be issued at 5:00 am EDT Saturday.Product IDV10310
