MELBOURNE - Dec 16/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of South Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high 1025 hPa well south of the Bight will move slowly eastwards to be centred over the Tasman Sea on Saturday. A trough of low pressure near the western border will move slowly eastwards and deepen to form a low over South Australia, which will continue southeastwards over western coasts on Saturday and then south of Kangaroo Island on Sunday. Forecast for the rest of FridayFine over the agricultural area. Patchy rain extending over the remainder, with the chance of isolated thunderstorms in the far northeast corner. Areas of rain and scattered thunderstorms with squally winds, hail and local heavy falls developing in the west of the Northwest Pastoral. Mild to warm in the south grading to hot in the far north. Light to moderate southeast to northeast winds, fresh at times near the coasts and ranges.Saturday 17 DecemberAreas of rain and isolated thunderstorms extending throughout in the morning. Thunderstorms tending scattered and squally with local heavy falls north of Woomera. Rain and thunderstorms easing to isolated showers in the far west. Mild to warm with moderate to fresh northeast to north winds, ahead of a moderate to fresh southwesterly change extending over the west.Sunday 18 DecemberAreas of rain and isolated thunderstorms over central and eastern parts, contracting eastwards and clearing the eastern border late evening. Isolated showers persisting over the agricultural area. Mild in the south grading to warm in the north with moderate to fresh northerly winds in the east, ahead of a moderate to fresh west to southwest change extending throughout.Monday 19 December Isolated showers over the southern agricultural area and Spencer Gulf coasts, contracting to the Lower South East in the evening. Chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms in the far northwest. Mild in the south, grading to hot in the far north. Cumulative rainfall totals from Friday morning until Monday evening are expected to be 10 to 20 mm about central parts of Pastoral districts, 20 to 40 mm elsewhere with local falls of 40 to 80 mm with thunderstorms in the western and far eastern parts of the Pastoral districts. Tuesday until ThursdayChance of isolated showers and thunderstorms in the far west, extending across the far north.
