For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A ridge extends along the southern and central Queensland east coast from a high in the Great Australian Bight. A weak upper trough lies over the southern interior, and a surface trough extends from the state's northwest into the Maranoa and Warrego district. Forecast for the rest of Thursday Mainly isolated showers over most eastern districts south of Bowen, except for more widespread showers and patchy thundery rain about the Capricornia and Wide Bay and Burnett districts. Scattered showers and storms over the northeast districts. Fine over the far west. Scattered storms and rain periods over the southern and central interior, extending into the Central Highlands region through the afternoon and evening. Isolated showers and storms over the remainder of the state. Light to moderate NW to NE winds across most of the state, with moderate to fresh SE winds about the east coast south of about Townsville. Forecast for Friday The high will move slowly east to lie near Tasmania, maintaining and strengthening the ridge along most of the east coast, and causing the thunderstorms and most active showers to contract north of Cairns during the day. A new upper trough will move east into central Australia, increasing instability through western Queensland with showers and thunderstorms expected. Showers and thunderstorms will also continue in the unstable airmass in the northern tropics. Mainly fine over the Central Highlands after some very early morning rain periods. The southeast and the central coast regions should be mainly fine with just some isolated showers, mainly about the coast and islands. Light to moderate NW to NE winds across most of the state, with moderate to fresh SE winds about the east coast. Forecast for Saturday An upper level trough is expected to strengthen over South Australia, further increasing instability over western Queensland and producing scattered showers, areas of thundery rain and some moderate falls over the region. Some more patchy thundery rain areas are likely to extend into the Maranoa and Warrego region during the day. Mainly fine with just isolated showers about much of the eastern half of the state as the ridge strengthens along the east coast. Scattered showers, isolated storms and rain periods over the Peninsula district. Forecast for Sunday The upper trough should weaken as it passes along Queensland's southern border during the day, but it should produce enough instability to cause further shower and storm activity over the western districts and the southern interior. The ridge should persist about the east coast, resulting in mainly fine conditions about the central interior and the majority of the eastern districts. Scattered showers and thundery rain periods over the Peninsula district as the monsoon trough forms over the Torres Strait area. Forecast for Monday A weak ridge should persist along the east coast, maintaining the mainly fine conditions over the eastern districts. Scattered showers and thundery rain periods persisting over the Peninsula district as the monsoon trough remains over the Torres Strait area. A surface trough should produce at least isolated showers and storms over the western districts and the southern interior. Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday A ridge should persist along the east coast, maintaining the mostly fine conditions about the eastern districts, though isolated showers are possible, particularly about the coast and islands. A surface trough should linger over the state's interior, producing at least isolated showers and storms in a band stretching from the Gulf Country into the Central West and down into the southern interior. The monsoon trough should remain near the Torres Strait region, and is expected to continue producing scattered showers and thundery rain periods over the Peninsula district. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Friday. Weather & WarningsAustraliaNew South WalesVictoriaQueenslandWarnings SummaryForecastsBrisbane ForecastQld.
