MELBOURNE - Dec 14/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Flood Warnings are current for various rivers. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A ridge is building along the east coast of Queensland coast from a high in the Great Australian Bight. A trough occurs on the northeast tropical coast. Forecast for the rest of Wednesday Showers and thunderstorms over the northern tropics, one or two thunderstorms about the Gulf coast. Isolated showers and thunderstorms about eastern coastal districts tending to isolated showers about the southeast . Dry over the interior. Increasing high cloud in the west with no rain expected. Light to moderate NW to NE winds over the tropics. Moderate to fresh SE winds about the east coast. Light to moderate SE to NE winds about the interior. Forecast for Thursday Showers and thunderstorms increasing over central interior in the afternoon with maximum activity over the Maranoa region. Showers and thunderstorms generally over the tropics and developing further over the Gulf region. Showers about the east coast generally and very isolated showers over the southeast region. Dry over the west however increasing cloud in the far southwest of the state with little or no rain. Light to moderate NW to NE winds across the tropics, freshening SE winds about the east coast. Light to moderate SE to NE winds over the interior. A moderate to high fire danger over the eastern interior. Forecast for Friday The high will move slowly east to lie near Tasmania, maintaining and strengthening the ridge about the east coast. Strong SE winds developing about the southern tropical coast south of a coastal trough. No change in the tropics but early showers or patchy rain clearing over the Maranoa and southern Central Highlands. Showers and thunderstorms developing generally through western districts in the afternoon. Very isolated afternoon showers over the southeast region. Becoming fine over the eastern interior north of about Emerald. Showers continuing about the east coast. Forecast for Saturday As a new upper level trough approaches from the west, showers and thunderstorms will increase over western and northern districts with some rain areas. Patchy rain extending east across the southern interior. Showers about the east coast with strong SE winds north of about Bowen and south of the coastal trough. Fine over the eastern interior. Forecast for Sunday Similar to Saturday with rain areas and thunderstorms through western and northern districts. Isolated afternoon showers now developing through the central interior. Rain areas across the southern interior. Showers continuing about the east coast. Fine over the eastern interior. Strong winds easing about the southern tropical coast. Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday Little change over the state for Monday, however a clearing southerly change enters the southwest of the state. The coastal trough in the NE tropics continues north with increased weather. No change for Tuesday but thundery rain spreading east into the southeast region as a western trough approaches. Isolated afternoon showers now extending all over eastern districts. Fine in the far southwest of the state. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Thursday.
