Australia -- South Australia Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Dec 14/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of South Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high pressure cell lies to the south of the Bight, embedded within a ridge of high pressure which extends over waters to the south of the continent. The high will move very slowly eastwards to be centred over the Tasman sea on Saturday. A trough of low pressure over Western Australia will also move slowly eastwards, reaching the western border early Friday, with a low forming along the trough, which will then move southeastwards to be centred near southern coasts on Sunday.
Forecast for the rest of WednesdayIsolated light showers west of about Streaky Bay to Oodnadatta. The chance of isolated thunderstorms in the northwest. Fine over the remainder with high cloud. Mild in the south grading to warm in the north. Moderate southeasterly winds, fresh at times near coasts and ranges, tending northeasterly in the west.Thursday 15 DecemberIsolated showers extending further eastwards to areas west of about Marree to Port Augusta. Isolated thunderstorms northwest of about Coober Pedy. Fine and partly cloudy over the remainder. Mild to warm in the south grading to hot in the far north. Light to moderate southeast to northeast winds, fresh at times near the coasts and ranges.Friday 16 DecemberPatchy rain and the chance of thunderstorms gradually extending to areas northwest of about Kingscote to Broken Hill, increasing to areas of rain and isolated thunderstorms west of Streaky Bay to Coober Pedy. Mostly warm to hot with moderate east to northeast winds shifting milder southwesterly near the western border. Fine and partly cloudy over the remainder.Saturday 17 December
Areas of rain and isolated thunderstorms extending throughout, reaching the South East district later. Rain also gradually contracting eastwards later to be confined to central and eastern districts later in the evening. Isolated showers persisting over the agricultural area and West Coast district following the rain. Mostly mild to warm with moderate to fresh northeast to north winds, ahead of a southwesterly change extending over the west.
Sunday 18 DecemberAreas of rain and isolated thunderstorms in the east, contracting southeastwards, clearing during the afternoon. Isolated showers persisting over the agricultural area. Mild in the south grading to warm in the north with moderate to fresh west to southwest winds, tending north to northwest over the southeast. Cumulative rainfall totals from Wednesday afternoon through to midnight Sunday are expected to be 2 to 20 mm with isolated falls of 20 to 40 mm possible with thunderstorms. Most of this rainfall is expected from later on Friday.Monday until WednesdayContinuing mild in the south grading to warm in the north. Isolated showers over the southern agricultural area, clearing on Wednesday. Moderate to fresh southwest to southeast winds.The next routine forecast will be issued at 5:30 am CDT Thursday.Product IDS10033
