MELBOURNE - Dec 13/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure system over the central Tasman Sea will approach New Zealand on Wednesday. A high pressure ridge south of the continent will extend eastwards across Bass Strait on Wednesday with a high centre forming just west of Tasmania on Thursday. The high should move south of Tasmania on Friday to lie over the South Tasman Sea on the weekend. A low pressure trough will develop over South Australia on Friday and deepen to form a low pressure system south of Adelaide on Saturday. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayIsolated showers over Gippsland, clearing from the west. Fine elsewhere. Cool to mild and partly cloudy in the south, but warmer and mostly sunny over the north. Moderate southeast to southerly winds, freshening along the coast during the afternoon.Fire Danger - Low to moderate.Thursday 15 DecemberFine apart from the chance of afternoon showers about the far eastern ranges. Mild to warm. Mostly sunny in the south, but patchy high cloud extending across the north. Generally light winds inland and fresh seabreezes developing along the coast during the afternoon.Friday 16 DecemberFine apart from isolated showers developing about the eastern ranges. Cloud increasing in the north, mainly sunny in the south. Light to moderate east to northeasterly winds, fresh at times near the coast.Saturday 17 DecemberIsolated showers developing over the eastern ranges and in the west. Isolated afternoon thunderstorms in the northwest.
