MELBOURNE - Dec 10/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
Flood Warnings are current for various Rivers.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A moist and unstable airmass extends over much of the state ahead of a trough
that lies near the southwestern border. This trough will move east over the
Queensland interior on Sunday and cause shower and thunderstorm activity to
become more widespread through central and southern parts of the state Sunday
afternoon and evening.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Showers and gusty thunderstorms [some severe] with moderate falls over
central and southeast districts, easing during the evening. Isolated showers and
gusty thunderstorms elsewhere over the state. Light to moderate mostly NW to NE
winds, fresh at time near the east coast.
Forecast for Sunday
Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the tropics and northwest, increasing
to scattered during the afternoon and evening. Patchy rain and isolated
thunderstorms over the Channel Country district, clearing to the east during the
day. Showers and thunderstorms with moderate falls over the remainder of the
state, increasing to thundery rain with locally heavy falls from the west during
the afternoon and evening [some thunderstorms will most likely be severe]. Light
to moderate NW to NE winds, fresh at times near the coast, ahead of cool and
gusty SW change extending east over western districts.
Forecast for Monday
The trough will move east into central and southeast districts and contract
off the southeast coast at night. A low will most likely develop on the trough
off the New South Wales coast. Patchy rain and thunderstorms will clear the
Central West district early morning as the trough progresses east. Thundery rain
areas with moderate to possibly locally heavy falls will ease to isolated
showers and thunderstorms from the west over central and southeast districts
during the morning. A moist and unstable airmass will persist over the tropics
ahead of the trough, with shower and thunderstorm activity continuing.
Forecast for Tuesday
The low off the New South Wales coast will most likely intensify rapidly and
move slowly south southeast. A weak trough will extend from the low into far
southeastern Queensland, with possible isolated afternoon showers and
thunderstorms near the southeastern border. Fine conditions should extend
through remaining southeast parts and into central districts south of about
Moranbah due to a drier W to SW wind flow. Isolated showers and thunderstorms
will persist in unstable conditions north of Moranbah, more widespread through
the northern tropics.
Forecast for Wednesday
A new upper level trough will move east over southeast districts, producing
showers and possible isolated thunderstorms on and east of the Great Dividing
Range. Unstable conditions will persist through the northern tropics in a moist
NE'ly wind flow, with scattered showers and thunderstorms expected. Isolated
showers will occur over remaining parts of the east coast in an onshore wind
flow, with possible isolated thunderstorms over the southern tropics. High cloud
will increase over the far southwest with patchy light rain developing.
Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday
Unstable conditions will persist over the tropics during the outlook period
with showers and thunderstorms expected. Cloud will increase over western
districts ahead of the next major trough system with showers and isolated
thunderstorms most likely increasing to thundery rain areas west of about
Longreach from Friday. Isolated showers are expected over remaining parts of the
state, with possible isolated thunderstorms inland.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Sunday.
