Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Dec 9/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time

Weather Situation
An upper level trough is passing through the southeast region of Queensland.
A broad area of surface low pressure lies over Central Australia, and will move
slowly east over the weekend.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Early patchy rain and isolated thunderstorms across central districts and the
southeast. Showers and thunderstorms generally over most of the state during the
day, increasing towards eastern coastal districts and the southeast this
afternoon. Fine in the far southwest and southern districts. Light N/NE winds
over the tropics. Light to moderate NE/NW winds about the east coast. Light to
moderate N/NE winds over the interior. Generally high fire danger over western
districts.
Forecast for Sunday
Early patchy rain across central districts and towards the east coast.
Showers and thunderstorms generally over the state, increasing towards the north
and east in the afternoon. Increasing thunderstorm activity also developing over
the southeast region in the afternoon with moderate falls. Fine in the far
southwest of the state.
A new trough or southerly wind change will progress across western districts
during the day, reaching the northwest, central interior and the western Darling
Downs in the afternoon.
Forecast for Monday
The trough will reach the near the Gulf district and slow as well as approach
eastern coastal districts later in the day. Over the southeast the trough passes
through with a wind change but showers and thunderstorms remain. Showers and
thunderstorms generally contracting to the tropics and about the east coast. Dry
over the interior. Some early patchy rain about eastern districts again.
Forecast for Tuesday
A trough stalls over the southern tropics and about the east coast near
Bowen. Showers and thunderstorms generally across the tropical belt north of the
trough with early rain areas. Dry over the remainder of the state apart from
isolated showers and thunderstorms near the southern border of the Darling
Downs.
Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
Little change over the state for Wednesday, however isolated showers
redeveloping  about the east coast as southeasterly winds develop. Thursday,
increasing instability over the interior will lead to isolated showers and
thunderstorms redeveloping over the southern and central interior. Showers and
thunderstorms through the west and across the tropics by Friday with isolated
showers elsewhere, fine conditions in the far south.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Saturday.
