MELBOURNE - Dec 8/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Flood Warnings are current for various Rivers. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A broad and weak upper level trough is expected to pass over the southern interior during the day. A broad area of surface low pressure lies over Central Australia. Forecast for the rest of Friday Patchy, mainly light thundery rain areas across the southern and central interior, and some isolated moderate falls about the southeast interior. An onshore wind flow should help some isolated showers to form over the state's southeast, and some areas of low cloud and morning drizzle about parts of the central interior. Fine over the northern half of the state except for some isolated showers and storms about the Peninsula and the North Tropical Coast and Tablelands districts. Light to moderate NW to NE winds. Forecast for Saturday An upper level trough over the state's interior will produce areas of patchy, mainly light thundery rain in a band stretching from the northwest district, across the central west and into the southern interior. More widespread areas of thundery rain are also expected about the southeast of the state, and some moderate falls are possible before the rain breaks up to more isolated showers and storms during the day. Isolated showers and storms over the remaining eastern districts. Fine over the state's northwest. Light to moderate NW to NE winds. Forecast for Sunday Another upper level trough is expected to produce patchy, mainly light thundery rain early in the day over the Channel Country. The upper trough will work with a surface trough over the state's southwest to produce scattered storms about the state's southeastern quarter, and some of these storms should spread to thundery rain areas late in the day. More isolated showers and storms over the northern half of the state. Forecast for Monday A ridge in the Great Australian Bight should push the surface trough gradually up to the northern tropics, allowing most of the southern districts to clear. Nevertheless thundery rain areas are still expected over the southeast during the morning due to an upper level trough, breaking up to isolated showers and storms during the day as the trough contracts eastwards. Isolated showers and storms over the state's north. Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday The ridging over the Great Australian Bight should maintain dry conditions over the southern half of the state during the outlook period. Meanwhile the air over the northern half of the state will remain humid and unstable, leading to at least isolated showers and storms. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Friday.
