MELBOURNE - Dec 8/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low off the southern Queensland coast is moving slowly towards New Zealand, while a strengthening high over the southern Tasman Sea extends a ridge towards New South Wales. A trough over central Australia is slowly drawing closer, with rain and thunderstorms ahead of it expected to reach into western New South Wales today. The trough is forecast to reach the west of the state on Saturday before continuing across eastern parts during Sunday and Monday, accompanied by another cool change. Forecast for the rest of FridayIsolated showers or rain periods in the west extending eastwards, becoming scattered about the central and northern inland with isolated thunderstorms developing in the afternoon. The chance of showers elsewhere, mostly clearing from the coast during the afternoon. East to northeast winds.Saturday 10 DecemberMostly fine in the northwest and the far southeast. Showers and possible afternoon thunderstorms over the remaining eastern parts, and developing along the southern and western border regions, more likely later. East to northeast winds near the coast, and northeast to northwest winds inland. A late southwest change in the far west.Sunday 11 DecemberScattered showers and thunderstorms, clearing from the west later. Northwest to northeast winds turning southwesterly in western and central districts.Monday 12 DecemberShowers and possible thunderstorms over the eastern half. Fine in the west.
