Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Dec 8/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
Wind warnings have been cancelled along the Fraser coast.
Flood Warnings are current for various Rivers.

Weather Situation
A developing depression occurs off the Sunshine coast but is moving further
away to the southeast. An associated trough on the northern side of this
depression extends northwest to the northeast tropical coast.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the northern half of Cape York
Peninsula. Isolated showers generally over the greater southeast region. Dry
over the remainder of the state. Light NW to NE winds across the tropics, Light
to moderate S to SE winds about most of the east coast, tending fresh about the
southeast coast. Light to moderate SE winds over the interior. A high to very
high fire danger over northern parts of Queensland.
Forecast for Friday
Isolated showers continuing over the greater southeast region, no change over
the tropics and through the central interior. A new upper level trough should
enter the southwest of the state, producing some patchy thundery rain which will
extend across to the Maranoa and Warrego districts late in the day. Becoming
fine over the southwest in the afternoon. Light winds over the tropics, light to
moderate SE to NE winds over the interior. SE winds easing about parts of the
east coast. A high to very high fire danger over the northwest of the state.
Forecast for Saturday
The upper trough associated with the thundery rain will enter the southeast
region. Thundery rain early over the southeast clearing then afternoon showers
and thunderstorms. Patchy rain and isolated thunderstorms extending north and
east over the interior. Showers and thunderstorms persisting in the tropics and
now developing southwards along eastern coastal districts in the afternoon.
Forecast for Sunday
A new surface trough will move east across western districts, reaching the
northwest and the western Darling Downs late in the day. Showers and
thunderstorms generally over the tropics and over eastern districts ahead of the
trough. Patchy rain areas remaining in the west. Becoming fine across southern
districts after the change.
Forecast for Monday
The trough or wind change slowing and reaching eastern districts while
clearing the southeast coast early. The change will then move north into the
Wide Bay region with clearing weather.  Fine over the west and across southern
districts. Early rain over the southeast region then fine.
Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
As the coastal trough moves further north along the east coast on Monday the
contraction of thunderstorms will continue into the tropics. Isolated showers
remaining about the east coast south of the trough. Dry over the interior. Not
much change over the state for Wednesday but by Thursday instability will
increase through the interior with showers and thunderstorms extending south
again.

Friday.
