Weather Situation
An upper level trough is expected to pass off the southeast coast during
today, while a surface low pressure system lies just east of Fraser Island and
is expected to move east southeast away from the coast during today. A surface
trough lies near the northeast coast, and extends into the southern
interior.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
Fine over the state's west, central interior and northern tropics except for
some isolated showers and storms over the Peninsula district. Scattered showers
about the southeast districts and the southeast interior. Light to moderate SW
to SW winds over most of the state. A high fire danger over parts of northern
Queensland.
Forecast for Friday
A new upper level trough should enter the southwest of the state, producing
some patchy, mainly light thundery rain across the southern and central
interior. An onshore wind flow should help some isolated showers to form over
the state's southeast, while showers and storms are possible about the Peninsula
district and the northeast coast north of about Townsville. Fine over the
remainder of the state. Light to moderate NW to NE winds.
Forecast for Saturday
An upper level trough over the state's interior will produce areas of patchy,
mainly light thundery rain across a band stretching from the northwest district,
across the central west and into the southern interior. Areas of patchy, mainly
light rain are also expected about the southeast of the state, though this
activity should break up to showers during the day. Isolated showers and storms
over the remaining eastern districts and fine over the Gulf Country.
Forecast for Sunday
Another upper level trough will produce patchy, mainly light thundery rain
over the Channel Country. The upper trough will work with a surface trough over
the state's southwest to produce scattered storms about the remaining southern
districts, and some of these storms should spread to thundery rain areas late in
the day. More isolated showers and storms over the remainder of the state.
Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
An upper trough may linger over the state early in the new week, producing
further shower and storm activity over the eastern districts. Becoming mainly
fine over the western districts as a new high south of the continent extends
drier air into the region.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Thursday.
