MELBOURNE - Dec 7/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Gale warning is current for offshore waters between Seventeen Seventy to Double Island Point. A Strong Warning is current for remaining coastal waters between Gladstone and Point Danger, including Hervey Bay. Flood Warnings are current for various Rivers. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation An upper level low occurs over southern Queensland and a surface east coast low occurs off the Capricorn coast. The east coast low will move east and deepen overnight and for Friday. Forecast for the rest of Wednesday Showers and thunderstorms over the northern tropics and over the southern and southeast interior. Rain areas persisting over the southeast district with moderate falls. Some isolated showers about the central coast. Fine over the western half of the state. Fresh to strong SE winds about the southeast, Wide Bay and Capricorn coasts. Light to moderate NW to SW winds about the central and northeast tropical coasts. Moderate NE to SE winds over the interior. High to very high fire danger across the tropics. Forecast for Thursday Showers and thunderstorms continuing over the northeast tropics. Isolated afternoon showers over the southern and southeast interior tending to showers and thunderstorms in the southeast corner. Fine over the remainder of the state with light to moderate S to SE winds. A little patchy light rain developing in the southwest of the state late in the day. Light to moderate NE winds over the tropics and the tropical NE coast. Moderating S to SE winds about the central and southeast coast. Moderate to high fire danger generally over northern Queensland. Forecast for Friday A new upper level trough should enter the southwest with thundery rain spreading from the Channel Country into the Maranoa district. Showers and thunderstorms developing generally ahead of this thundery rain in the afternoon over the southeast region. No change over the tropics. Fine over the remainder of the state. Forecast for Saturday As the upper level trough enters the southeast region, thundery rain will clear the southeast early with afternoon showers and thunderstorms to follow. Patchy rain remaining over the interior, weakening and drifting northeast. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the northeast tropics and now developing southwards along the east coast. Forecast for Sunday Showers and thunderstorms developing over most parts of the state with another upper level trough moving across southern Queensland. This will generate another band of thundery rain which will spread east from the southwest to the southern interior late in the day. Becoming fine again in the southwest later in the day. Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday Conditions will most likely remain unsettled during the outlook period. Showers and thunderstorms persisting across the tropics and eastern districts for Monday. Thunderstorms clearing to the southeast coast as a surface wind change moves through. By Tuesday, the southeasterly wind change moving north along the wide bay coast with thunderstorm activity confined to the tropics and central coast. Wednesday, as the change moves up the coast showers will follow. Thunderstorms remaining across the tropics and contracting north on the central coast.
