Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Dec 6/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Strong Wind Warning is current for coastal waters between
Gladstone and Double Island Point, including Hervey Bay.
Flood Warnings are current for the Flinders and Paroo Rivers.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
An upper level trough is drifting eastwards across the southern interior. A
surface trough extends from the northwest of the state into the southern
interior. A surface trough is expected to form near the Capricornia coast
during today and move southwards, possibly developing into a weak low.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
Scattered showers, isolated thunderstorms and areas of rain about the state's
southeast, with some moderate falls, possibly heavy about the Capricornia Coast
due to the developing trough. Showers and isolated thunderstorms over the
northeastern tropics. Early showers and thunderstorms about the Central Coast
and northern Highlands and Coalfields should clear to a fine day. Fine over the
western half of the state. Cool to cold maximum temperatures are expected over
southern and central districts. Fresh to strong SE winds developing along the
Wide Bay and Capricornia coasts, and moderate to fresh SE to NE winds over much
of the remainder of the east coast. Light to moderate NE to NW winds over most
of the remainder of the state, tending S to SW over western districts. Cool
maximum temperatures are expected over much of the state.
Forecast for Thursday
The upper trough seems most likely to contract off the southeast coast during
Thursday afternoon. Some uncertainty remains about the development of the coast
trough, but a weak low may develop off the Fraser Coast early in the day which
pulls away to the southeast. Strong S to SE winds are therefore likely about the
southern Capricorn and Fraser Coasts. Rain areas and thunderstorms should
gradually ease to showers over southeast districts but some moderate falls area
possible about the Wide Bay and Southeast Coasts early in the day. Isolated
showers and possible thunderstorms are expected over the North Tropical Coast
with showers and thunderstorms about Cape York Peninsula. Most of the state's
interior should be fine along with the Central Coast, though a moist wind flow
will produce isolated showers over the southern interior. A new upper level
trough may produce some patchy rain over the far southwest.
Forecast for Friday
The new upper level trough should pass over the southeast interior as a
fairly weak system, producing showers and isolated thunderstorms over
southeastern districts. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are likely over the
northeast tropics. The central and northern interior should remain fine along
with the Central Coast. Cloud is likely to increase over most of the interior
and may produce some patchy light rain and weak thunderstorms.
Forecast for Saturday
Another upper trough is expected to move across southeast districts and
should produce scattered showers and isolated over southeast districts, while
an onshore wind flow should produce some isolated showers and inland
thunderstorms about the central and northeast coast. Isolated showers and
thunderstorms over the Peninsula district and the central interior.
Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
Conditions will most likely remain unsettled during the outlook period due to
a series of upper level troughs moving east over the state. Showers and
thunderstorms should occur over much of the state on Sunday before possible
contracting to northern and eastern districts on Monday and into the far
northeast of the state on Tuesday with fine conditions spreading to southern
districts.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Wednesday.
