Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Dec 6/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Strong Wind Warning has been issued for coastal waters
between Gladstone and Double Island Point, including Hervey Bay.
Flood Warnings are current for the Flinders and Paroo Rivers.
The Severe Weather Warning for the Maranoa and Warrego and Darling Downs and
Granite Belt districts has been cancelled.

web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
An upper level trough is drifting eastwards across the southern interior. A
surface trough extends from the northwest of the state into the southern
interior. A ridge extends up the southeast of the state from a high near
Tasmania. A surface trough lies off the central and northeast coast of
Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Tuesday
Rain areas with thunderstorms over the southern interior with some moderate
falls. Cloudy with scattered showers, isolated thunderstorms and areas of
patchy rain over parts of the central districts. Cloudy with more isolated
showers and areas of patchy, mainly light rain over the southeast districts.
Mainly isolated showers and storms about the state's northern tropics, and fine
about the far western districts. Fresh SE winds along the east coast south of
about St. Lawrence, and light to moderate SE to NE winds about the remainder of
the east coast. Light to moderate NE to NW winds over most of the remainder of
the state, tending SW to SW over western districts. Cool maximum temperatures
are expected over much of the state.
Forecast for Wednesday
The upper level trough should move over the southeast interior late in the
day, while a surface trough should form near the Capricornia coast, and extend
over the waters off the Wide Bay coast by the evening. The two weather systems
should produce scattered showers, isolated storms and areas of rain about the
state's southeast, with some moderate falls about the coastal districts and some
moderate to locally heavy falls over the Darling Downs and Granite Belt
district. More isolated showers and storms over the northeastern districts,
and fine over the western half of the state. Cool to cold maximum temperatures
are expected over southern and central districts. Fresh to strong SE winds
developing along the Wide Bay and Capricornia coasts, and moderate to fresh SE
to NE winds over much of the remainder of the east coast. Light to moderate NE
to NW winds over most of the remainder of the state, tending SW to SW over
western districts. Cool maximum temperatures are expected over much of the
state.
Forecast for Thursday
Some uncertainty exists with the movement of the upper level trough and the
surface weather patterns beneath it, however at this stage the upper trough
seems most likely to contract off the southeast coast Thursday afternoon. Rain
areas and thunderstorms should gradually ease to showers over southeast
districts. Isolated showers and possible thunderstorms are expected over the
North Tropical Coast with showers and thunderstorms about Cape York Peninsula.
Most of the state's interior should be fine, though a moist wind flow will
produce isolated showers over the southern interior, and a new upper level
trough may produce some patchy rain over the far southwest.
Forecast for Friday
A new upper level trough should pass over the southeast interior as a fairly
weak system, producing showers and isolated thunderstorms over southeastern
districts. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are likely over remaining eastern
districts and also about the far northwest of the state. Cloud is likely to
increase over most of the interior and it may produce some patchy light
rain.
Forecast for Saturday
A weak trough should produce some isolated showers and storms over the
southern interior, while an onshore wind flow should produce some isolated
showers about the central and northeast coast. Isolated showers and storms over
the Peninsula district and the central interior. The upper level trough should
produce scattered showers and isolated storms over the southeast districts.
Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
Conditions will most likely remain unsettled during the outlook period due to
a series of upper level troughs moving east over the state. Isolated showers and
thunderstorms should occur over much of the state, possibly becoming more
widespread over central and eastern districts on Sunday before contracting
offshore early in the new working week.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Wednesday.
