MELBOURNE - Dec 5/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Severe Weather Warning is current for people in the Maranoa and Warrego and the far eastern Channel Country districts. A Strong Wind Warning is current for coastal waters from Burnett Heads to Point Danger, excluding Hervey Bay and Moreton Bays. Flood Warnings are current for the Flinders and Paroo Rivers. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation An upper level trough will move eastwards over southwest Queensland during today. A surface trough extends from the northwest of the state into the southern interior. A ridge extends up the southeast of the state from a high near Tasmania. A surface trough lies off the central and northeast coast of Queensland. Forecast for the rest of Tuesday Rain areas with thunderstorms over the southern interior, with moderate to heavy local falls over the Maranoa and Warrego and far eastern Channel Country districts. Cloudy with scattered showers, isolated thunderstorms and areas of patchy rain and over most of the eastern districts, though with only patchy rain over southeast districts. Mostly fine about the far western districts as isolated showers contract eastwards. Fresh to strong SE winds along the east coast south of about St. Lawrence, and light to moderate SE to NE winds about the remainder of the east coast. Light to moderate NE to NW winds over most of the remainder of the state, tending SW to SW over western districts. Cool maximum temperatures are expected over much of the state. Forecast for Wednesday The upper level trough should continue to move east into the southeast of the state by the end of the day. The coastal trough will most likely move further south to the Capricorn coast. Rain areas and thunderstorms should contract to areas southeast of about Bowen to Thargomindah with some moderate to locally heavy falls possible. Showers and thunderstorms are likely to continue about the eastern tropics. Fine conditions will occur elsewhere over western districts and through most of the Gulf Country. Cool to cold maximum temperatures are expected over southern and central districts. Forecast for Thursday Some uncertainty exists with the movement of the upper level trough and the surface weather patterns beneath it, however at this stage the upper trough seems most likely to contract off the southeast coast Thursday afternoon. Rain areas and thunderstorms should gradually ease to showers over southeast districts. Isolated showers and possible thunderstorms are expected over the North Tropical Coast with showers and thunderstorms about Cape York Peninsula. Most of the state's interior should be fine, though a moist wind flow will produce isolated showers over the southern interior, and a new upper level trough may produce some patchy rain over the far southwest. Forecast for Friday The new upper level trough should pass over the southeast interior as a fairly weak system. The upper level system should produce showers and isolated thunderstorms over southeastern districts. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are likely over remaining eastern districts and also about the far northwest of the state. Cloud is likely to increase over most of the interior which may produce some light patchy rain. Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday Conditions will most likely remain unsettled during the outlook period due to a series of upper level troughs moving east over the state. Isolated showers and thunderstorms should occur over much of the state, possibly becoming more widespread over central and eastern districts on Sunday before most likely contracting into the north and northeast of the state on Monday. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Tuesday. Weather & WarningsAustraliaNew South WalesVictoriaQueenslandWarnings SummaryForecastsBrisbane ForecastQld.
