of the Central Highlands and Coalfields districts.

Danger, including Hervey Bay and Moreton Bays.

Weather Situation
An upper level trough lies over Queensland's western districts, and a surface
trough extends from the state's southern interior up to a surface low over the
central west. A surface trough lies just off the northeast coast.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
Cloudy with rain areas and isolated storms over the state's interior and most
of the eastern districts, with some moderate to heavy local falls possible about
the southern interior [see Severe Weather Warning]. Mainly fine about the
southeast with just a few isolated showers. Mainly isolated showers and storms
about the remainder of the state, more widespread about the Channel Country.
Fresh to strong S to SE winds about the east coast south of Bowen. Light winds
elsewhere over the tropics. Moderate, mostly SE to NE winds over the interior,
fresh at times. Cool maximum temperatures over much of the state.
Forecast for Tuesday
The upper trough should drift a little to the east, but remain over
Queensland's western districts, while the surface low drifts into the southern
interior. The two weather systems will work together to maintain the rain areas
over the southern interior, with moderate to heavy local falls again possible
over the Maranoa and Warrego district. Cloudy with scattered showers, isolated
storms and areas of patchy rain and over most of the eastern districts, though
with more isolated activity about the southeast. Fine about the far western
districts, except for some isolated showers and storms about the Gulf Country.
Fresh to strong SE winds along the east coast south of about St. Lawrence, and
light to moderate SE to NE winds about the remainder of the east coast. Light
to moderate NE to NW winds over most of the remainder of the state, tending east
to southeast and fresh at times about the southern interior. Cool maximum
temperatures are expected over much of the state.
Forecast for Wednesday
The upper level trough should continue to drift slowly to the east, reaching
the southeast interior late in the day, while the surface low should remain over
the Maranoa and Warrego district. The combination of the two systems should
produce rain areas again over the Maranoa and Warrego, with some moderate to
heavy local falls possible. Rain areas are also likely about the Central
Highlands and the eastern districts south of about Bowen. Mainly isolated
showers and storms about the remainder of the eastern districts, and fine over
the western districts. Cool to cold maximum temperatures are expected over
southern and central districts.
Forecast for Thursday
Some uncertainty exists with the movement of the upper level trough and the
surface weather patterns beneath it, however at this stage the upper trough
seems most likely to contract off the southeast coast Thursday afternoon. Rain
areas and thunderstorms should gradually ease to showers over southeast
districts. Isolated showers and possible thunderstorms are expected over
remaining eastern districts. Most of the state's interior should be fine, though
a moist wind flow will produce isolated showers over the southern interior, and
a new upper level trough may produce some patchy rain over the far
southwest.
Forecast for Friday
The upper level trough should pass over the southeast interior as a fairly
weak system, while a weak surface trough will lie from the southern interior up
to the state's northwest. The upper level system should produce some patchy,
mainly light rain about the southern districts, which will contract eastwards
with the movement of the trough. Isolated showers and storms over the eastern
districts, and also about the far northwest of the state. Fine over the
northern interior.
Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday
Conditions will most likely remain unsettled during the outlook period due to
a series of upper level troughs moving east over the state. Isolated showers and
thunderstorms should occur over much of the state, possibly becoming more
widespread over the eastern districts from Sunday.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Tuesday.
