Maranoa and Warrego, Central West, Central Highlands and Coalfields,
southeastern Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders, Central Coast and
Whitsundays, and Herbert and Lower Burdekin districts.

Weather Situation
An upper trough will enter the southwest of the state during today, inducing
an area of low pressure over the central and southern interior. A trough and an
associated strong S to SE wind change will move north over far southern
Queensland waters today. Another trough is expected to develop on the central
coast during today.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
Showers and isolated thunderstorms in the far west and through the northern
tropics. Cloudy with rain areas and thunderstorms elsewhere over the interior
and through the southern tropics and central coast. Widespread moderate falls
are likely, with some locally heavy falls, particularly with thunderstorms over
the central coast and southern and central interior [refer to Severe Weather
Warning]. Cloudy conditions over remaining parts of the state with patchy rain
and isolated showers, more extensive over areas north of Brisbane. Fresh to
strong E to SE winds about the east coast south of Townsville, tending S to SE
south of Fraser Island. Light winds elsewhere over the tropics. Moderate, mostly
SE to NE winds over the interior, fresh at times. Cool to cold maximum
temperatures over much of the state.
Forecast for Tuesday
The upper trough should continue to move east across western districts. Fresh
to strong E to SE winds should continue on the east coast between about Mackay
and Double Island Point as the coastal surface trough deepens further in
response to the upper system. Showers and isolated thunderstorms will occur over
areas west of Longreach though contract east with the trough during the day.
Rain areas and thunderstorms will extend elsewhere over the interior and through
the southern tropics and central districts with moderate to locally heavy falls
expected. Showers and thunderstorms will continue through the northern tropics.
Patchy rain will occur over southeast districts. Cool to cold maximum
temperatures are expected over much of the state.
Forecast for Wednesday
The upper level trough should continue to move east into the southeast of the
state by the end of the day. The coastal trough will most likely move further
south to the Capricorn coast. Rain areas and thunderstorms should contract to
areas southeast of about St Lawrence to Thargomindah with some moderate to
locally heavy falls possible. Showers and thunderstorms are likely to continue
about the central coast and eastern tropics. Isolated showers are expected
through the southern interior in the wake of the rain band. Fine conditions will
occur elsewhere over western districts and through the Gulf Country. Cool to
cold maximum temperatures are expected over southern and central districts.
Forecast for Thursday
Some uncertainty exists with the movement of the upper level trough, however
at this stage it will most likely contract off the southeast and Capricorn
coasts Thursday afternoon. Rain areas and thunderstorms should gradually ease to
showers over southeast districts though some heavy falls remain possible near
the coast early in the morning. Isolated showers and possible thunderstorms are
expected over remaining eastern districts. The coastal trough will most likely
move further south to lie near the Fraser coast with possible fresh to strong SE
winds extending over waters to its south. A moist wind flow will maintain
isolated showers over the southern interior. A new trough will approach the
southwestern border late in the day, extending high cloud and patchy rain into
far southwestern parts. Fine conditions are expected elsewhere.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
Conditions will most likely remain unsettled during the outlook period due to
a series of upper level troughs moving east over the state. Isolated showers and
thunderstorms should occur over much of the state, possibly becoming more
widespread on Sunday due to a surface trough entering the interior.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Monday.
