MELBOURNE - Dec 1/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Flood warnings are current for various districts. A fire weather warning has been issued for the Channel Country for Friday. A gale wind warning is current for coastal waters south of Double Island Point, excluding Moreton Bay. A strong wind warning is current coastal waters between Mackay and Double Island Point, including Hervey Bay and Moreton Bay. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A trough is moving north along the Capricorn coast with freshening SSE winds. A ridge of higher pressure is developing about the coast south of the trough. An upper level trough will approach western Queensland by Sunday, increasing the weather over the interior. Forecast for the rest of Friday Showers and thunderstorms generally over the tropics and through the central interior by this afternoon. Showers about the east coast. Dry over southern districts. Very isolated showers about the exposed southeast, Wide Bay and Capricorn coasts. Rather cool over southern districts this morning. Fresh to strong and gusty SSE winds developing about the central and southeast coasts. Moderate to fresh SE winds about the remainder of the east coast. Moderate to fresh SE winds over the interior. A moderate to high fire danger over the interior, reaching severe in the southwest of the state. Forecast for Saturday Showers and thunderstorms continuing over the tropics, extending into the central interior in the afternoon. Showers about the east coast, increasing near the central coast. Dry across southern districts. Very isolated showers about the southeast and Capricorn coasts. Strong winds continuing about the central and southeast coasts. Forecast for Sunday An approaching upper level trough will increase the thunderstorm activity over the northwest of the state with developing rain areas. Rain areas extending southeast into the central interior. A surface trough will deepen over the central interior with increased precipitation and moderate to heavy falls. Showers about the east coast as the old coastal trough stalls near Mackay with showers merging into rain areas. Showers starting to increase about the southeast coast. Dry over southern districts. Strong winds have finally eased about the east coast. Forecast for Monday The upper level trough continues to increase the weather over the interior with rain areas spreading south and east . Heavier precipitation concentrated over the central interior associated the deepening surface trough. Showers and thunderstorms across the tropics and showers about the east coast. Occasional showers tending to rain periods on the central coast. Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday The upper level trough will enter western Queensland on Tuesday with much the same weather over the state. Moderate to heavy falls now extending east towards the central coast. By Wednesday the upper level trough progresses into central Queensland with rain areas contracting east, showers remaining. By Thursday, the rain areas continue to contract east with showers remaining over the interior. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Friday.
