MELBOURNE - Dec 1/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Flood warnings are current for various districts. A fire weather warning has been issued for the Channel Country for Friday. A gale wind warning is current for coastal waters south of Double Island Point, excluding Moreton Bay. A strong wind warning is current coastal waters between St Lawrence and Double Island Point, including Hervey Bay and Moreton Bay. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A trough is moving north along the Southeast Queensland coast this afternoon and is forecast to reach the southern Capricornia tonight before weakening and extending north to St Lawrence on Friday. A trough also lies over inland Queensland. Forecast for the rest of Thursday Showers and thunderstorms generally over the tropics and eastern districts, increasing to thundery rain areas with moderate falls over the southeast. Fine over the west. Light to moderate SE to E winds inland, tending moderate to fresh SE in the southwest. Moderate SE winds along the tropical east coast, tending fresh to strong S to SE about the southern coast. Forecast for Friday Showers and thunderstorms continuing over the tropics and eastern districts, tending scattered about the southern Central Highlands and Coalfields district with possible moderate falls. Patchy rain areas in the morning over the Southeast, becoming fine in the afternoon. Fine in the west and south. Light to moderate SE to E winds inland, tending moderate to fresh SE in the southwest. Moderate to fresh SE winds along the tropical east coast, tending fresh to strong S to SE about the southern and Capricornia coasts. Forecast for Saturday The surface trough weakens near the Central Coast district while an inland trough pushes north. Showers and thunderstorms across the tropics, extending into the central west. Isolated showers along the east coast. Fine in the west, south and southeast interior. Forecast for Sunday An upper trough will approach western Queensland while a high near Tasmania extends a ridge along the east coast. Rain areas and thunderstorms over the northwest, extending to the Central Coast district. Showers and thunderstorms over the remaining tropics and isolated showers along the southeast coast. Fine in the south. Forecast for Monday The upper trough will move into far southwest Queensland while the ridge will remain along the east coast. Showers and thunderstorms in the tropics and central interior, isolated showers about the southeast coast and rain areas about the southern interior. Fine in the far southwest. Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday The upper trough will move across southern Queensland while the ridge will remain along the east coast. On Tuesday and Wednesday expect showers, thunderstorms and rain areas about most eastern districts, tending more isolated in the southeast and fine in the far west. On Thursday expect showers, thunderstorms and rain areas to contract to eastern and southeastern districts while easing in the tropics and remaining fine in the west.
