Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Nov 28/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
Flood warnings are current for various districts.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high in the Tasman Sea extends a ridge along the east coast of Queensland.
A tropical trough lies off the tropical east coast.
Forecast for the rest of Tuesday
Isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible over much of the state,
except for the far southwest and over the southeast interior which will remain
fine. Showers should increase along the northeast coast between Cairns and
Mackay, and some patchy areas of thundery rain and moderate local falls are
possible. Mainly fine along the remainder of the east coast south of Mackay,
except for a few very isolated showers during the morning. A high to very high
fire danger over the interior. Light to moderate northeast to northwest winds
over the interior. Light to moderate southeast to northeast winds over the
eastern districts, fresh at times about the coast.
Forecast for Wednesday
An upper level and a surface trough will drift eastwards across the Channel
Country. The troughs should work together to produce scattered showers and
storms, which may spread to patchy rain areas with some moderate local falls
over the Warrego region and the eastern parts of the Channel Country district.
More isolated showers and storms can be expected over much of the remainder of
the state, though conditions will remain fine over the southeast interior.
Patchy areas of thundery rain between Cairns and Mackay should ease and break up
to showers during the day. Light to moderate southeast to northeast winds over
most of the state, with a cooler, fresh and gusty southerly change spreading
over the Channel Country during the day.
Forecast for Thursday
Fine over the Channel Country. Early morning thundery rain over the
remaining southern inland areas, contracting into the central and southeast
interior as the upper level and surface troughs move over the eastern districts
by the afternoon. Scattered showers and storms near the surface trough over the
southeast interior, spreading to rain areas with some moderate to locally heavy
falls possible over the Darling Downs. More isolated showers and storms with
moderate local falls about the Southeast Coast and Wide Bay and Burnett
districts. Mainly isolated showers remaining along the tropical east coast, and
isolated showers and storms over the northern inland areas. A new high in the
Great Australian Bight will push a cooler, gusty southerly change along the
southeast coast during the afternoon and evening.
Forecast for Friday
The inland trough should remain over the northeast districts, while the
southerly change should reach the St. Lawrence area by the evening. Patchy rain
areas may linger over the southeast interior and Wide Bay and Burnett regions
early in the morning, before clearing during the day. Scattered showers and
storms with some moderate to possibly heavy local falls over the Central
Highlands, and more isolated showers and storms over the Capricornia district.
Isolated showers over the remainder of the east coast, and isolated showers and
storms over the northeast interior and the Gulf Country. Fine over the
southeast and the remainder of the state's interior.
Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday
The high south of the continent should extend a ridge up the east coast,
maintaining fine conditions over the southern districts of Queensland and
pushing the surface trough into the state's western districts. Showers and
storms will be concentrated over the central and northern interior to the east
of the trough. An upper level trough near the state's west may allow the
showers and storms over the northern tropics to increase on Sunday, and for more
isolated activity to restart over the southern interior. This pattern looks set
to continue on Monday, though with showers also redeveloping about the
southeast.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Tuesday.
