Coral Sea. A ridge of higher pressure will form about the east coast over the
next few days as a southern high develops.

region through the central interior towards to Darling Downs this afternoon and
evening. Isolated showers towards the east coast. Showers increasing about the
central coast this evening with local thunder. Dry in the far west. Light to
moderate NE winds over the interior. Light to moderate SE to NE winds across the
tropics. Moderate SE winds generally about the east coast tending light to
moderate NE about the southeast coast.

country through the central interior and into the southern interior. Rain areas
or occasional showers about the central coast with local thunder. Isolated
showers generally over the southeast region. A high to very high fire danger
over the interior, moderate to high fire danger near the east coast. Light to
moderate NE winds over the interior. Moderate to fresh SE winds about the east
coat tending light to moderate NE winds on the southeast coast.
Forecast for Wednesday
A new trough or southerly wind change enters the Channel Country generating
thunderstorms early that will expand and develop further as the trough
progresses east into the Warrego district. Eventually the thunderstorm activity
will spread into a large area of thundery rain overnight with moderate falls.
Elsewhere just isolated showers and thunderstorms over the central interior and
across the tropics. Showers continuing about the east coast with decreasing
showers or rain areas about the central coast. Fine over the southeast interior.
Forecast for Thursday
The trough will eventually reach the Darling Downs and the northwest of the
state and stall. Thundery rain over the Maranoa district clears east but
extending across the Darling Downs and the southeast coast with moderate to
heavy falls. Isolated showers remaining on most of the east coast. A secondary
trough or southeasterly wind change will move through the southeast coast with
strong winds developing.
Forecast for Friday
The inland trough remains stationary but the coastal trough reaches the St
Lawrence region with strong SSE winds. Patchy rain clearing the southeast part
of the state but isolated showers remaining on the exposed coast. Rain areas and
thunderstorms persisting over the eastern interior near the southern Central
Highlands with moderate to heavy falls. Little change over the tropics.
Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday
As the coastal southeasterly change progresses north along the central
coast on Saturday the inland trough will also fall back further west. This will
concentrate the thunderstorm activity over the Central West, becoming fine over
a larger area of the greater southeast region. By Sunday, much the same
although the thunderstorm activity will expand over the interior as an upper
level trough approaches. Thunderstorms and rain areas spreading south and east
on Monday as the upper level trough enters western Queensland.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Tuesday.
