MELBOURNE - Nov 28/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Flood warnings are current for various districts. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A weak trough occurs over the interior of Queensland and extends southeast towards N.S.W. Another trough is approaching the central east coast from the Coral Sea. A ridge of higher pressure will form about the east coast over the next few days as a southern high develops. Forecast for the rest of Monday Isolated showers and thunderstorms developing in a broad band from the Gulf region through the central interior towards to Darling Downs this afternoon and evening. Isolated showers towards the east coast. Showers increasing about the central coast this evening with local thunder. Dry in the far west. Light to moderate NE winds over the interior. Light to moderate SE to NE winds across the tropics. Moderate SE winds generally about the east coast tending light to moderate NE about the southeast coast. Forecast for Tuesday Isolated showers and thunderstorms developing in a broad band from the Gulf country through the central interior and into the southern interior. Rain areas or occasional showers about the central coast with local thunder. Isolated showers generally over the southeast region. A high to very high fire danger over the interior, moderate to high fire danger near the east coast. Light to moderate NE winds over the interior. Moderate to fresh SE winds about the east coat tending light to moderate NE winds on the southeast coast. Forecast for Wednesday A new trough or southerly wind change enters the Channel Country generating thunderstorms early that will expand and develop further as the trough progresses east into the Warrego district. Eventually the thunderstorm activity will spread into a large area of thundery rain overnight with moderate falls. Elsewhere just isolated showers and thunderstorms over the central interior and across the tropics. Showers continuing about the east coast with decreasing showers or rain areas about the central coast. Fine over the southeast interior. Forecast for Thursday The trough will eventually reach the Darling Downs and the northwest of the state and stall. Thundery rain over the Maranoa district clears east but extending across the Darling Downs and the southeast coast with moderate to heavy falls. Isolated showers remaining on most of the east coast. A secondary trough or southeasterly wind change will move through the southeast coast with strong winds developing. Forecast for Friday The inland trough remains stationary but the coastal trough reaches the St Lawrence region with strong SSE winds. Patchy rain clearing the southeast part of the state but isolated showers remaining on the exposed coast. Rain areas and thunderstorms persisting over the eastern interior near the southern Central Highlands with moderate to heavy falls. Little change over the tropics. Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday As the coastal southeasterly change progresses north along the central coast on Saturday the inland trough will also fall back further west. This will concentrate the thunderstorm activity over the Central West, becoming fine over a larger area of the greater southeast region. By Sunday, much the same although the thunderstorm activity will expand over the interior as an upper level trough approaches. Thunderstorms and rain areas spreading south and east on Monday as the upper level trough enters western Queensland. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Tuesday.
