Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Nov 26/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
Flood warnings are current for various districts for minor
flooding.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A weak surface trough lies from the Gulf Country through the eastern interior
to the southeast of the state. An upper level trough is weakening over
southeastern districts. A ridge of high pressure lies along the east coast of
Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Sunday
Mainly isolated showers and thunderstorms over the eastern interior near and
east of the surface trough, tending scattered about the Gulf Country and
Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders district. Fine over western districts,
the Central West district and the southern and southeast interior. Mostly fine
over the east coast and adjacent inland with only isolated showers. Light to
moderate SE to SW winds west of the trough, and mainly moderate SE to NE winds
east of the trough, fresh at times near the coast.
Forecast for Monday
The surface trough should drift slightly westward as the ridge builds
slightly up the east coast and by the afternoon should extend from the Gulf
Country to the southwest Darling Downs. Mainly isolated showers and
thunderstorms along and east of the trough over the western tropics, central and
eastern interior. Isolated showers about the east coast, but increasing about
the Central Coast late in the day with possible local thunder. Remaining fine
over the western districts. Light to moderate SE to NE winds east of the
trough, fresh at times about the east coast. Light to moderate SE to SW winds
west of the trough.
Forecast for Tuesday
The inland trough should move into the western districts, allowing mainly
isolated showers and thunderstorms to spread over most of the state as moisture
spreads westwards. Showers and isolated thunderstorms are likely to increase to
rain areas about the central and northeast coast as a weak tropical trough
approaches from the Coral Sea. Mostly fine over the southeast of the state with
only isolated showers. Fine over the Channel Country.
Forecast for Wednesday
An upper trough is likely to move into southeastern Australia and push the
inland trough back east into the Channel Country during the day. Showers and
thunderstorms will develop about the southwest and southern interior and tend to
thundery rain areas. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are likely over the
tropics and central interior. Isolated showers about the east coast, tending
scattered about the central and northeast tropical coasts.
Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday
A new high in the Great Australian Bight should push the inland trough
rapidly eastwards during Thursday. The band of showers, thunderstorms and rain
areas will contract in to eastern districts on Thursday, and then mainly into
the northeast districts on Friday as a fresh to strong southerly change moves up
the east coast. A new upper trough may develop over central Australia on
Saturday with showers and thunderstorms redeveloping over much of the interior,
with isolated showers along the east coast.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Sunday.
