flooding.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A surface trough lies over the eastern interior. An upper level trough is
weakening over the eastern districts. A ridge of high pressure lies along the
east coast of Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Fine over the western districts and the southern interior. Cloudy periods
with isolated showers and storms over the eastern districts, more likely over
the tropics. Light to moderate southwest to southeast winds over the western
districts and southern interior. Light to moderate east to northeast winds over
the eastern districts, fresh at times about the coast. A Very High fire danger
in the Channel Country.
Forecast for Sunday
The surface trough should remain over the northeast interior, and will extend
down to the southeast. The southern part of the trough should move off the
southeast coast early in the day, but then drift back inland in the afternoon.
Mainly isolated showers and storms over the eastern districts near and east of
the trough. Fine and dry over the western districts, the southern and southeast
interior, and over the central west. Light to moderate southeast to southwest
winds west of the trough, and mainly moderate east to northeast winds east of
the trough, fresh at times near the coast.
Forecast for Monday
The surface trough should drift to the west, and by the afternoon should
extend from the Gulf Country to the southeast interior. Mainly isolated showers
and storms along and east of the trough over the central and eastern districts.
Remaining fine and dry over the western districts.
Forecast for Tuesday
The inland trough should move into the western districts, allowing mainly
isolated showers and storms to spread over most of the state. Showers
increasing about the central and northeast coast as a weak tropical trough
approaches from the Coral Sea. Fine over the Channel Country.
Forecast for Wednesday
The inland trough should lie over the Channel Country, producing isolated
showers and storms over the state's western and central districts. Mainly fine
over the eastern half of the state, except for some mainly isolated showers
about the east coast and nearby inland areas. Isolated showers and storms over
the Peninsula district.
Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday
A new high in the Great Australian Bight should push the inland trough
rapidly eastwards from Wednesday. Accordingly showers and storms will contract
from the western districts on Wednesday, into the eastern districts on Thursday,
and then mainly into the northeast districts as a southerly change moves up the
east coast.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Sunday.
