For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A surface trough that extends from the northwest of the state into the Maranoa will move slowly eastwards to lie from the northwest of the state to the far southeast by late Saturday. An upper level low to the south of the state will continue to move slowly southeast through the rest of today and tomorrow. Forecast for the rest of Friday Rain areas and thunderstorms through the central and southern interior with some moderate to locally heavy falls possible. Isolated showers and thunderstorms about the northern tropics. Isolated showers over the east tropical coast with possible isolated thunderstorms inland. Mostly fine over the southeast, central and Capricorn coasts with only isolated showers. Fine in the west of the state. Moderate SE to NE winds over the east coast, fresh at times. Moderate to fresh SW to SE winds in the west. Light to moderate NW to NE winds elsewhere over the interior. Forecast for Saturday The thundery rain band should lie through the central and southeast interior at first and will contract eastwards during the day whilst weakening, most likely reaching the southeast coast by evening. Mostly fine conditions with only isolated showers are expected along the Wide Bay and central coasts ahead of the rain band. Instability should decrease through the northeast tropics with only isolated showers. Showers and thunderstorms will continue through the eastern Gulf Country and northern interior with more isolated activity expected over the Peninsula. Fine conditions for most of the west of the state. Moderate SE to NE winds along the east coast, fresh at times about the tropical and southeast coasts. Moderate S to SW winds extending across most of the interior in the wake of the trough. A Very High fire danger in the Channel Country. Forecast for Sunday The upper level low will most likely contract east off the Victorian coast into the Tasman Sea with conditions generally stabilising over most of the state. A deep ridge should develop over the northeast of the state with only isolated showers expected about the central and northeast tropical coasts. The patchy, weak remnants of the rain band over the far southeast should clear offshore early in the day. Isolated shower and thunderstorm activity will contract to northeast of a line from about Burketown to Fraser Island. Fine conditions are expected elsewhere. Forecast for Monday A weak upper level trough will most likely move east over the state, producing showers and isolated thunderstorms over the northwest and central interior. Isolated showers will occur over the east coast and adjacent inland in a moist onshore wind flow. These showers may be further enhanced over the central, Wide Bay and north Peninsula coasts with possible isolated thunderstorms due to a trough moving west over the Coral Sea. Fine conditions will continue in the southwest and far southern interior. Forecast for Tuesday The next major upper trough should start to move east across southern Australia whilst a low level trough moves into the east of the state off the Coral Sea. Showers and thunderstorms are likely across most the state with the most widespread activity likely to be about the east coast, extending into the central and southern interior. Shower and thunderstorm activity is likely to be more isolated over the northwest of the state. Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday The new upper trough will most likely move through southeast Australia on Wednesday with a surface trough moving into the southwest of the state. This will focus shower and thunderstorm activity further west about the central and southern interior. This trough will most likely move east on Thursday, contracting the shower and thunderstorm activity eastwards into the eastern parts of the state. A southerly change is likely to move up the southern coast late on Thursday and this will contract most of the shower and thunderstorm activity offshore on Friday. Conditions will remain generally unstable through the northern tropics with isolated showers and thunderstorms. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Saturday.
