MELBOURNE - Nov 24/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system south of the Bight extends a ridge across Tasmania while a low pressure trough is developing over western New South Wales. The ridge will remain to the south of Victoria on Friday as the trough over New South Wales develops a low pressure centre over northwestern Victoria. The low will move across Victoria early Saturday and is expected to be located over central Bass Strait by Saturday afternoon. The low will then move quickly across the southern Tasman Sea on Sunday, another trough will move through Bass Strait on Monday. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayIsolated showers near the northern border, tending to rain areas during the evening and slowly extending southwards. Moderate east to southeasterly winds, fresh to locally strong near the coast.Friday 25 NovemberRain areas over the north extending southwards during the morning. Rain easing to showers over parts of the north and west in the afternoon. Isolated thunderstorms, mainly over the northwest. Mild with moderate southeast to northeasterly winds, fresh to locally strong near the coast in the afternoon.Fire Danger - Low.Saturday 26 NovemberRain areas and isolated thunderstorms mostly clearing in the northwest later in the day. Rain tending more widespread over the east with locally heavy falls. Mild with moderate northeast to southeasterly winds tending northwest to southwesterly by the afternoon, locally strong near the coast.Sunday 27 NovemberAreas of rain and isolated thunderstorms over the east contracting to east Gippsland by early afternoon then clearing. Isolated showers to follow south of the ranges, mostly clearing in the afternoon. A mild day in the south, warm in the north with moderate southwesterly winds freshening near the central and eastern coasts.Monday 28 NovemberIsolated showers near the coast clearing in the morning. Isolated showers and thunderstorms possible near the northeastern ranges in the afternoon. Otherwise a warm day in the south with light winds and afternoon seabreezes.
