Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Nov 22/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high over the Tasman Sea will maintain a weak ridge about the Queensland
east coast.  A surface trough over the Channel Country will drift slowly
eastwards during the day. An upper level trough over Central Australia is
producing a cloud band over western Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Tuesday
The Channel Country and nearby communities are likely to see thunderstorms
and showers spread to patchy rain areas today with moderate to locally heavy
falls.  Showers and thunderstorms over the Gulf region and western Cape York
Peninsula. Isolated showers about the tropical east coast and nearby inland
areas. Fine over the remainder of the state.  Light to moderate NE winds over
most of the state, and relatively cool S to SE winds over the Channel Country.
Forecast for Wednesday
The upper trough will drift a little eastwards, allowing a cloud band with
showers and storms to stretch from the state's northwest, through the central
interior and down to the southeast and southern inland areas.  Moderate to
locally heavy falls are possible within this cloud band as the showers and
storms spread out to patchy rain areas.  Mainly isolated showers and
thunderstorms over the remaining eastern districts, with storms more likely over
Cape York Peninsula and the southeast districts.  Becoming fine over the Channel
Country.  Below average temperatures over the central, southern and western
districts.
Forecast for Thursday
The upper trough should remain near stationary, allowing the thundery rain
band to stay over the northwest, central interior and southeast interior
districts.  Moderate to locally heavy falls will remain possible within the rain
band.  At least showers are likely to occur over the southeast districts, and
there is a moderate chance the showers may spread out to thundery rain. Isolated
showers and the chance of some thunderstorms over the remaining eastern
districts.  Fine over the state's southwest.  Below average temperatures over
the central, southern and western districts.
Forecast for Friday
The upper trough should remain to the state's southwest, allowing the
thundery rain band to remain across the northwest, central and southeast
interior districts.  Moderate to locally heavy falls are again possible within
the rain band.  At least isolated showers and storms over the remaining eastern
districts, with storms more likely over Cape York Peninsula and the state's
southeast. Fine over the state's southwest.  Below average temperatures over the
central, southern and western districts.
Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday
The upper level trough and rain band should weaken on Saturday over the
southeast interior.  By Sunday the what remains of the rain band should shift
into the southern tropics and merge with shower and thunderstorm activity. The
cloud band should decay completely by Monday, but showers and thunderstorms
should remain across the tropics and the central interior. Some isolated showers
in the southeast. Fine over the western districts.
