Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Nov 20/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Fire Weather is current for the Channel Country and Warrego
regions.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high over the Tasman Sea will maintain a weak ridge onto the east tropical
coast of Queensland until the middle of the week. A surface trough will remain
over the south-west of the state early in the week, before moving into the
central parts of the state on Wednesday. An upper trough will move across the
state during the week accompanied by a band of cloud and rain.
Forecast for the rest of Sunday
Fine over most of the state. Only isolated showers along parts of the east
tropical coast with isolated showers and storms over the remainder of Cape York
Peninsula. Showers and storms will occur over far western districts and along
the southern inland border areas of the state. Winds will be light to moderate
south-east to north-east in most areas becoming fresh at times about the
north-east tropical coast and over the far south-west. A Severe Fire Danger
continues over the Channel Country and Warrego regions.
Forecast for Monday
The surface trough will remain anchored over the south-west of the state
while an upper level trough will move into central Australia. This upper trough
will allow showers and storms to spread out to thundery rain areas late in the
day over the Channel Country. Showers and storms are also expected over the
remaining western districts and along the southern inland border areas. Isolated
showers will continue along the east tropical coast while showers and storms
will occur over Cape York Peninsula. Fine elsewhere. Light to moderate
northeast to northwest winds over most of the state, fresh at times about the
east coast of Cape York Peninsula.
Forecast for Tuesday
The surface trough will remain over the southwest of the state while the
upper trough and associated rain band will strengthen, producing thundery rain
with moderate to locally heavy falls over the west of the state. Isolated
showers and storms will occur over the Gulf Country, western Cape York Peninsula
and in a band across central areas of the state before the rain band. Isolated
showers will occur along most of the east coast and become scattered about the
coast between Cardwell and Bundaberg. Temperatures under the cloud band will be
well below average.
Forecast for Wednesday
The upper trough will move a little eastwards while the surface trough will
move into the eastern interior. The cloud and rain band with storms and some
moderate to locally heavy falls will move eastwards and extend from the
north-west to the south-east interior by late in the day. A clearance will
spread across the south-west during the day. Isolated showers and storms will
continue over the northern tropics while isolated showers will occur over most
remaining districts. Temperatures under the cloud band and to the west will be
well below average.
Forecast for Thursday
The cloud and rain band will move into far eastern districts by evening with
further moderate to heavy falls occurring. Fine conditions will spread across
most western and southern areas of the state in the wake of the cloud band.
Showers and storms will continue over the far north of the state. Temperatures
under the cloud band and to the west will be well below average.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
Latest indications are that cloud and rain band will generally remain
anchored over far eastern districts until about Sunday when decay will finally
develop. During this period E to NE winds will continue in east coast districts
and generally feed the cloud band. Winds along the far southern coast may shift
to the south-west during this period as a deep trough or weak low develops off
the far southern coast. As a result the rain and/or showers in this area will
mostly be light, initially at least. Fine conditions will occur over most
southern inland and western areas of the state under the influence of dry south
to south-east winds.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Monday.
