Weather Situation
A high over the Tasman Sea will maintain a weak ridge along the east tropical
coast of Queensland. A surface trough will remain over the south-west of the
state early in the week, before moving into the central parts of the state on
Wednesday. An upper trough will extend a band of rain over the Channel Country
on Monday, at it will move gradually across the state during the week.
Forecast for the rest of Sunday
Fine over the eastern and central districts, except for some isolated showers
along parts of the east tropical coast and isolated showers and storms over Cape
York Peninsula. Showers and storms are expected over the western districts and
along the southern inland border areas. Light to moderate southeast to northeast
winds over most parts, fresh at times about the north-east tropical coast and
the state's southwest. Moderate to fresh south to southeast winds will develop
over the far south-west behind the trough. A Severe Fire Danger over the Channel
Country and Warrego regions.
Forecast for Monday
The surface trough will remain anchored over the south-west of the state
while an upper level trough will remain over central Australia. This upper
trough will allow showers and storms to spread out to thundery rain areas late
in the day over the Channel Country. Showers and storms are also expected over
the remaining western districts and along the southern inland border areas.
Isolated showers will continue along the east tropical coast while showers and
storms will occur over Cape York Peninsula. Fine elsewhere. Light to moderate
northeast to northwest winds over most of the state, fresh at times about the
east coast of Cape York Peninsula. Moderate south to southeast winds near the
South Australian border.
Forecast for Tuesday
The surface trough will remain over the state's southwest, while the upper
trough and rain band will strengthen, producing thundery rain with moderate to
locally heavy falls over the Channel Country, Northwest and Warrego districts,
and the western parts of the Central West. Isolated showers and storms will
occur over the Gulf Country and the Peninsula districts. Isolated showers along
the east tropical coast and nearby inland areas. Fine elsewhere.
Forecast for Wednesday
The upper trough will move a little eastwards, and the surface trough will
move into the central parts of the state. The cloud and rain band with storms
and some moderate to locally heavy falls will extend from the north-west to the
south-east interior by late in the day. Isolated showers and storms over the
northern tropics, while isolated showers will occur over most remaining
districts.
Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday
The cloud and rain band will extend from the northwest to the southeast
during Thursday, with some moderate to possibly heavy falls expected over the
central interior, and some moderate falls over the southeast districts. The
rain band will then contract northwards and gradually decay during Friday and
Saturday. Showers and storms will continue over the far northern tropics during
this period. Over the remainder of the state's west conditions should remain
fine in the wake of the cloud band. A cooler change will move over the
southeast during Thursday, and may reach the central coast by Saturday.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Sunday.
