MELBOURNE - Nov 20/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Fire Weather is current for the Channel Country and Warrego regions. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high over the Tasman Sea will maintain a weak ridge along the east tropical coast of Queensland. A surface trough will remain over the south-west of the state early in the week, before moving into the central parts of the state on Wednesday. An upper trough will extend a band of rain over the Channel Country on Monday, at it will move gradually across the state during the week. Forecast for the rest of Sunday Fine over the eastern and central districts, except for some isolated showers along parts of the east tropical coast and isolated showers and storms over Cape York Peninsula. Showers and storms are expected over the western districts and along the southern inland border areas. Light to moderate southeast to northeast winds over most parts, fresh at times about the north-east tropical coast and the state's southwest. Moderate to fresh south to southeast winds will develop over the far south-west behind the trough. A Severe Fire Danger over the Channel Country and Warrego regions. Forecast for Monday The surface trough will remain anchored over the south-west of the state while an upper level trough will remain over central Australia. This upper trough will allow showers and storms to spread out to thundery rain areas late in the day over the Channel Country. Showers and storms are also expected over the remaining western districts and along the southern inland border areas. Isolated showers will continue along the east tropical coast while showers and storms will occur over Cape York Peninsula. Fine elsewhere. Light to moderate northeast to northwest winds over most of the state, fresh at times about the east coast of Cape York Peninsula. Moderate south to southeast winds near the South Australian border. Forecast for Tuesday The surface trough will remain over the state's southwest, while the upper trough and rain band will strengthen, producing thundery rain with moderate to locally heavy falls over the Channel Country, Northwest and Warrego districts, and the western parts of the Central West. Isolated showers and storms will occur over the Gulf Country and the Peninsula districts. Isolated showers along the east tropical coast and nearby inland areas. Fine elsewhere. Forecast for Wednesday The upper trough will move a little eastwards, and the surface trough will move into the central parts of the state. The cloud and rain band with storms and some moderate to locally heavy falls will extend from the north-west to the south-east interior by late in the day. Isolated showers and storms over the northern tropics, while isolated showers will occur over most remaining districts. Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday The cloud and rain band will extend from the northwest to the southeast during Thursday, with some moderate to possibly heavy falls expected over the central interior, and some moderate falls over the southeast districts. The rain band will then contract northwards and gradually decay during Friday and Saturday. Showers and storms will continue over the far northern tropics during this period. Over the remainder of the state's west conditions should remain fine in the wake of the cloud band. A cooler change will move over the southeast during Thursday, and may reach the central coast by Saturday. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Sunday.
