MELBOURNE - Nov 19/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Fire Weather has been issued for the Channel Country district. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high over the Tasman Sea will maintain a ridge onto the east tropical coast of Queensland into next week though in a weakening mode. A surface trough will move into the south-west of the state on Sunday and reach the eastern interior by Wednesday. An upper trough will move into central Australia on Monday and then into the south-west of the state on Wednesday. Forecast for the rest of Saturday Scattered showers and thunderstorms over the north-west of the state with isolated showers and thunderstorms developing over the remainder of the far west of the state. Isolated light showers along the east tropical coast with isolated showers and thunderstorms over Cape York Peninsula. Fine elsewhere. Severe Fire Danger in the Channel Country district. Light to moderate SE to NE winds, fresh at times about the north-east tropical coast. Forecast for Sunday A surface trough will move into the south-west and far southern interior of the state while a weak ridge will continue onto the east tropical coast. Isolated showers will continue along parts of the east tropical coast while isolated showers and storms will continue over Cape York Peninsula. Showers and storms will develop over the far west of the state and along the far southern inland border areas. Fine elsewhere. Light to moderate SE to NE winds over most parts, fresh at times about the north-east tropical coast. Moderate to fresh S to SE winds will develop over the far south-west behind the trough. Forecast for Monday The surface trough will remain anchored over the south-west of the state while an upper level trough will move into central Australia. This upper trough will generate a cloud and rain band with storms and this band will move into the far west of the state late in the day. Isolated showers will continue along the east tropical coast while showers and storms will occur over Cape York Peninsula and about the southern Gulf of Carpentaria. Fine elsewhere. Forecast for Tuesday The upper trough will move eastwards a little while the surface trough will move into central areas of the state. The cloud and rain with storms and some moderate to heavy falls will move across the west of the state. Isolated showers will occur along parts of the east tropical coast and along the southern coast north of about Fraser Island. Isolated showers and storms will occur over the remainder of the northern tropics. Fine elsewhere. Forecast for Wednesday The upper trough will move a little eastwards while an upper low develops over New South Wales. The surface trough will move into the eastern interior of the state. The cloud and rain band with storms and some moderate to heavy falls will extend from the north-west to the south-east by late in the day. Isolated showers and storms will continue over the northern tropics while isolated showers will occur over most remaining districts. Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday The cloud and rain band will slowly weaken over eastern districts of the state during Thursday and Friday as a low pressure system develops off the New South Wales coast. Over the west of the state conditions will remain fine in the wake of the passage of the cloud band. Showers and storms will continue over the far northern tropics during this period.
