MELBOURNE - Nov 18/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high over the Tasman Sea will maintain a ridge along the east tropical coast of Queensland until the end of the week. A near stationary surface trough extends from the far northwest of the state into the southern interior, while an upper level trough lies over the eastern interior. Forecast for the rest of Friday Showers and thunderstorms in the northwest, with more isolated activity developing through the southern interior during the day. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the Peninsula district. Isolated showers along the east tropical and central coasts. Fine elsewhere. Light to moderate SE to NE winds, fresh at times in the southwest and along the northeast tropical coast. A Very High fire danger in the Central West district. Forecast for Saturday The surface trough will drift into the state's northwest, producing scattered showers and thunderstorms in the region. The ridge will remain along the east Queensland coast, producing isolated showers over most coastal districts, more frequent about the north tropical coast. Fine over the southeast and the interior, except for the chance of some morning drizzle about the Sunshine and Wide Bay coasts, and some isolated thunderstorms over the Peninsula district. Light to moderate SE to NE winds, fresh at times about the central and north tropical coasts. Forecast for Sunday A ridge over the Great Australian Bight should allow the surface trough to reform over the southern interior and provide cooler, southerly winds over the Channel Country. Meanwhile an upper trough west of the state will cause isolated showers and storms to redevelop over Queensland's western districts, possibly spreading out to patchy rain areas late in the evening about the western border. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible over remaining parts of the interior south and west of about Charleville. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are again expected about the Peninsula district. Mainly isolated showers in an onshore flow about the east coast, tending scattered at times north of Innisfail. Fine and very warm over the southeast and the remainder of the state. Forecast for Monday The surface trough should remain in the southwest of the state, while the upper level trough will approach, but remain west of Queensland. The approach of the upper trough will cause cloud to thicken across the west of the state with showers and thunderstorms spreading to rain areas over the far western districts and some locally moderate falls possible. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are also expected over the remainder of the northwest, and also over the southern interior. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are again expected about the remaining northern tropics. Mostly fine and very warm conditions will occur elsewhere over the state, with only isolated light showers near the east coast north of Fraser Island. Forecast for Tuesday The surface trough should remain over the state's southwest, and the upper level trough should stay to the west of the border. The combination of the weather systems should produce scattered showers and thunderstorms over the western districts, with the activity spreading to rain areas during the day and moderate falls are also possible. Isolated showers and thunderstorms about the central interior, and also about the remaining northern tropics. Mainly fine about the southeast with just some isolated showers about the Wide Bay coast. Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday The surface trough and associated band of showers and thunderstorms will move slowly east over the interior during the outlook period, most likely reaching the eastern districts on Wednesday or Thursday. The activity should then contract northwards during the outlook period as a cool change pushes northwards. Showers and isolated thunderstorms will continue along the east tropical and central coasts ahead of the rain band with mostly fine conditions over the southern interior. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Saturday. Weather & WarningsAustraliaNew South WalesVictoriaQueenslandWarnings SummaryForecastsBrisbane ForecastQld.
