MELBOURNE - Nov 17/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high over the Tasman Sea will maintain a ridge along the east tropical coast of Queensland until the end of the week. A near stationary surface trough extends from the far northwest of the state into the southeastern interior and will weaken during today. An upper level trough over western Queensland will move northeast into the central interior during today. Forecast for the rest of Friday Showers and thunderstorms in the northwest, with more isolated activity developing through the southern interior during the day, mostly east of about Quilpie. Mostly fine conditions elsewhere over the interior with just some patchy light rain through the central west. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the Peninsula district. Isolated showers and morning drizzle areas along the east tropical and central coasts, with showers becoming more frequent over the northeast tropical coast. Mostly fine elsewhere over the east coast with just the chance of early morning light showers and drizzle areas. Light to moderate SE to NE winds, fresh at times in the southwest and along the northeast tropical coast. A Very High fire danger in the Central West district. Forecast for Saturday A new trough will move east over central Australia and most likely approach the southwest Queensland border late in the day. Showers and thunderstorms should become more widespread through northwestern parts of the state in the converging NW to NE wind flow ahead of the trough. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are also expected through the far southern interior, mostly during the afternoon. The ridge will persist along the east Queensland coast. Instability should increase through the tropics due to the presence of an upper trough, with scattered showers near the east tropical coast and isolated thunderstorms over the Peninsula district. Mostly fine conditions should occur over remaining parts of the state, with only isolated showers over central districts and some early morning drizzle in the Wide Bay and Sunshine Coast. Forecast for Sunday The surface trough should move into the southwest and far southern interior of the state. Cloud will increase across the far west of the state, with showers and thunderstorms increasing to thundery rain at night. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible over remaining parts of the interior south and west of about Charleville. Conditions should remain fairly unstable through the northern tropics, with showers and isolated thunderstorms expected. Isolated showers will occur over remaining eastern districts north of Fraser Island. Fine conditions should continue elsewhere. Forecast for Monday The surface trough should remain in the southwest of the state. A significant upper trough will approach the southwest border at night. Cloud will therefore thicken across the west of the state with rain areas and thunderstorms spreading to areas west of about Normanton to Cunnamulla with some moderate falls possible. Isolated showers and thunderstorms will most likely develop just to the east of the rain band southwest of about Longreach to Stanthorpe. A trough moving west over the Coral Sea will maintain unstable conditions through the tropics with isolated showers and thunderstorms expected. Mostly fine conditions will occur elsewhere over the state with only isolated showers and early drizzle areas near the east coast north of Fraser Island. Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday The surface trough and associated band of rain and thunderstorms will move slowly east over the interior during the outlook period, most likely reaching the east coast by late Wednesday. The rain band will most likely extend from the Gulf Country through central and southeast districts on Thursday, but should contract off the southeast coast during the day depending on the movement of the trough. Showers and isolated thunderstorms will continue along the east tropical and central coasts ahead of the rain band with mostly fine conditions over the southern central and southeast districts on Tuesday.
