Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Nov 13/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high over the Tasman Sea will maintain a ridge along the east tropical
coast of Queensland until the end of the week. A surface trough will persist
over the southern interior for the next few days.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the southern central highlands and
through the southeast south of Fraser Island, mostly over inland parts. Showers
and isolated gusty thunderstorms over the Northwest district and western Gulf
Country. Isolated showers and possible thunderstorms over Torres Strait.
Isolated showers over remaining parts of the Peninsula district, also developing
on the northeast tropical coast tonight. Fine elsewhere.  Moderate to fresh SE
to NE winds along the east coast, tending N to NE in the far south. Mostly light
to moderate SE to NE winds elsewhere. Very warm to hot conditions over most of
the south and west of the state.
Forecast for Tuesday
Isolated showers and gusty thunderstorms over the southern interior, mostly
west and south of about Charleville. Isolated afternoon showers and possible
thunderstorms over southeast inland parts. Fine elsewhere over southern and
central Queensland. Showers and isolated gusty thunderstorms over the far
northwest. Isolated showers and possible thunderstorms through Torres Strait.
Mostly fine elsewhere over the tropics with only isolated showers near the
tropical coast north of Townsville. Very warm to hot conditions over most of the
south and west of the state with moderate NW to NE winds, fresh at times. Light
to moderate SE to NE winds elsewhere, fresh at times along the tropical
coast.
Forecast for Wednesday
The ridge will persist along the east coast while a new trough will enter
southwest parts of the state. Unstable conditions will therefore persist over
much of the southern interior with showers and isolated thunderstorms, mostly
south of about Windorah to Goondiwindi. Fine conditions will occur elsewhere
over central and southern parts of the state. Isolated showers and thunderstorms
will continue near the northwestern border. Mostly fine conditions will occur
elsewhere over the tropics with only isolated showers and drizzle areas near the
east tropical coast and through the far northern Peninsula district. Very warm
to hot temperatures will continue over most of the south and west of the state.
Forecast for Thursday
The trough will move further east to extend from the northwest of the state
into the southeast interior. Showers and isolated thunderstorms will therefore
occur southwest of about Mount Isa to Goondiwindi, and also extend east into the
southeastern Darling Downs during the day. Isolated showers and thunderstorms
will continue near the northwest border and also possibly develop on the west
Peninsula coast late in the day. The ridge along the east coast will be
maintained as a new high moves into southeastern Australia. Isolated showers and
morning drizzle areas will occur along the coast north of about Fraser Island
and through the northern Peninsula in the onshore wind flow. Fine conditions are
expected elsewhere.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
The new high will move east into the Tasman Sea, maintaining a ridge of high
pressure and SE to NE winds along the east Queensland coast. Isolated showers
will occur continue along the east tropical and central coast in the onshore
wind flow. Mostly fine conditions should occur over the southern central and
southeast districts, with only isolated showers and possible thunderstorms,
mostly inland. A new surface trough will move east over Central Australia over
the weekend and re-focus the shower and thunderstorm activity over the southern
interior back into western parts of Queensland, possibly becoming quite
widespread with rain areas on Sunday as the trough approaches our western
border.
