MELBOURNE - Nov 13/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high over the Tasman Sea will maintain a ridge onto the east tropical coast of Queensland. A surface trough will remain near stationary over the south-west and south of the state. Forecast for the rest of Sunday Isolated showers are expected about the north-east tropical coast and about north-west Cape York Peninsula. Isolated showers and thunderstorms will continue in a band from the southern Gulf of Carpentaria coast to the Darling Downs and the southeast coast. Fine elsewhere. Very warm to hot conditions will continue over most of the south and west of the state. Forecast for Monday Isolated showers are again expected about the north-east tropical coast and about north-west Cape York Peninsula. Isolated showers and thunderstorms will continue near the southern Gulf of Carpentaria coast and about the south-east Darling Downs. Fine elsewhere. Very warm to hot conditions will continue over most of the south and west of the state. Forecast for Tuesday The ridge along the east coast will be maintained while the inland trough will hover over the south-west of the state. Some middle to high cloud generated by a developing upper trough over central Australia will spread into the west of the state late in day. This cloud band will be accompanied with isolated thunderstorms and showers. Isolated showers will continue along the east coast north of Cardwell and over north-west Cape York Peninsula. Isolated showers and thunderstorms will continue near the southern Gulf of Carpentaria coast and about the south-east Darling Downs. Fine elsewhere. Very warm to hot conditions will continue over most of the south and west of the state. Forecast for Wednesday The ridge will continue along the east coast while the inland trough will slip a little eastwards along the southern border. The middle to high cloud with isolated thunderstorms and showers will also move slowly eastwards as the upper trough approaches the west. Isolated showers will continue along the east coast north of Cardwell and over north-west Cape York Peninsula. Isolated showers and thunderstorms will continue near the southern Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Very warm to hot conditions will continue over most of the south and west of the state. Forecast for Thursday The ridge along the east coast will generate isolated showers about the east coast. The upper trough will move into western Queensland producing isolated showers and thunderstorms in the southern interior and south-west. Isolated showers will continue about the southern Gulf of Carpentaria. It will remain fine over the rest of the state. Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday The high in the Tasman Sea will move slowly east but continue to extend a ridge along the east coast. The ridge will continue to produce isolated showers along parts of the east coast. The upper trough will become stationary over central Queensland and weaken by Saturday with decreasing chances of showers and thunderstorms. Isolated showers and storms will continue about the southern Gulf of Carpentaria into the weekend. Am amplifying upper trough over central Australia will increase cloud with showers and thunderstorms in the far west of the state on Sunday.
