MELBOURNE - Nov 12/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation The high over the Tasman Sea will maintain a ridge onto the east tropical coast of Queensland into the middle of the week at least. A surface trough will remain near stationary over the south-west and south of the state. Forecast for the rest of Sunday The high will move only very slowly eastwards over the Tasman Sea as a frontal system moves across Victoria and New South Wales and enters the southern Tasman Sea late in the day. Isolated showers are again expected about the north-east tropical coast and about north-west Cape York Peninsula. Isolated showers and thunderstorms will continue near the southern Gulf of Carpentaria coast and about the south-east Darling Downs. Fine elsewhere. Very warm to hot conditions will continue over most of the south and west of the state. Forecast for Monday The ridge along the east coast will be maintained while the inland trough will hover over the south-west of the state. Some middle to high cloud generated by a developing upper trough over central Australia will spread into the west of the state accompanied by weak rain and local thunder. Isolated showers will continue along the east coast north of Cardwell and over north-west Cape York Peninsula. Isolated showers and thunderstorms will continue near the southern Gulf of Carpentaria coast and about the south-east Darling Downs. Fine elsewhere. Very warm to hot conditions will continue over most of the south and west of the state. Forecast for Tuesday The ridge will continue along the east coast while the inland trough will slip a little eastwards along the southern border. The middle to high with some weak rain and local thunder will also move eastwards but in a weakening mode as the upper trough generating the cloud slips to the south-east. Isolated showers will continue along the east coast north of Cardwell and over north-west Cape York Peninsula. Isolated showers and thunderstorms will continue near the southern Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Very warm to hot conditions will continue over most of the south and west of the state. Forecast for Wednesday The high in the Great Australian Bight will move east and merge with the high in the Tasman Sea, maintaining the ridge along the east Queensland coast. An approaching mid-level trough will increase cloud and trigger isolated showers and thunderstorms in the southern and south-west interior, and the far west. It will continue fine over the remainder of the state apart from isolated showers and thunderstorms in the western Peninsula. Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday A new high will enter the Tasman Sea on Thursday and then move slowly eastwards with the ridge along the east coast being maintained. Isolated showers will occur along parts of the east coast. The cloud band over the west of the state will decay during Thursday. Isolated showers and storms will continue about the southern Gulf of Carpentaria into the weekend. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Sunday.
