MELBOURNE - Nov 12/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high over the Tasman sea will slowly move east and extend a ridge along the east coast of Queensland. A surface trough will remain over Queensland's interior over the next few days. Forecast for the rest of Saturday Fine over most of the eastern districts except for some very isolated showers about the coast, and some isolated showers and thunderstorms over the southern and south-east interior. Fine over the remainder of the state except for some isolated showers and thunderstorms about the state's northwest and along the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Light to moderate SE to NE winds, fresh at times about the northeast coast. Forecast for Sunday Isolated showers are expected along the northeast coast, especially in the morning. Isolated showers and thunderstorms will continue near the Gulf of Carpentaria coast, the state's northwest, the southern and south-east interior and southern parts of the southeast coast. Fine elsewhere. Very warm to hot conditions will continue over most of south and west of the state. Light to moderate SE to NE winds, fresh at times about the northeast coast. Forecast for Monday The high will slowly drift east as a frontal system moves across Victoria and New South Wales. Isolated showers are again expected about the northeast coast as the ridge along the coast maintains. Isolated showers and thunderstorms continue near the Gulf of Carpentaria coast, the state's northwest, and also over the southern and south-east interior. Fine elsewhere. Very warm to hot conditions will continue over most of south and west of the state. Forecast for Tuesday The high in the Tasman Sea along with the trough system will become almost stationary, while another high moves into the Great Australian Bight. A cloud band is expected to form over the Channel Country during the day, and it may produce some local thunder, but little or no rain. It will be fine over the remainder of the state except for some isolated showers and thunderstorms about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast and isolated showers and thunderstorms in the south-east interior. Forecast for Wednesday The high in the Great Australian Bight will move east and merge with the high in the Tasman Sea, maintaining the ridge along the east Queensland coast. An approaching mid-level trough will increase cloud and trigger isolated showers and thunderstorms in the southern and south-west interior, and the far west. It will continue fine over the remainder of the state apart from isolated showers and thunderstorms in the western Peninsula. Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday The merged high in the Tasman Sea will continue to extend a ridge along east Queensland coast with isolated showers, chiefly about the northeast tropical coast. The mid-level trough and associated cloud will move into the far west of the state on Thursday again triggering showers and thunderstorms in the west. The trough will continue to move east before weakening on Friday with decreasing shower and thunderstorm activity. Fine over the remainder of the state. An approaching mid-level disturbance may increase showers and thunderstorms in the northwest on Saturday. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Sunday.
