Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Nov 11/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high over the Tasman sea extends a ridge along the east coast of
Queensland. This ridge will weaken along the southern coast on Monday as a
trough moves across Victoria and New South Wales. A new high will enter the
Tasman Sea in the middle of the new week. A surface trough will remain over
Queensland's interior over the next few days.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Fine over most of the eastern districts except for some very isolated showers
about the coast, and some isolated showers and thunderstorms over the southern
and south-east interior. Fine over the remainder of the state except for some
isolated showers and thunderstorms about the state's northwest and along the
Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Light to moderate SE to NE winds, fresh at times
about the northeast coast.
Forecast for Sunday
The high over the Tasman Sea will continue to move slowly eastwards and
maintain a ridge along the east coast. Isolated showers are expected along the
central and northeast coasts. Fine though cloudy in the morning about the
southeast coast. Isolated showers and thunderstorms will continue near the Gulf
of Carpentaria coast, the state's northwest, and also over the southern and
south-east interior. Fine elsewhere. Very warm to hot conditions will continue
over most of south and west of the state. Light to moderate SE to NE winds,
fresh at times about the northeast coast.
Forecast for Monday
The ridge along the southern coast will weaken as a frontal system moves
across Victoria and New South Wales. Isolated showers are again expected about
the northeast coast while isolated showers and thunderstorms should continue
near the Gulf of Carpentaria coast, the state's northwest, and also over the
southern and south-east interior. Fine elsewhere. Very warm to hot conditions
will continue over most of south and west of the state. Fresh north to
northeasterly winds developing along the southeast coast during the afternoon.
Forecast for Tuesday
The ridge will weaken along the east coast, causing showers along the
northeast coast to become very isolated. A cloud band is expected to form over
the Channel Country during the day, and it may produce some local thunder, but
little or no rain. Fine over the remainder of the state except for some isolated
showers and thunderstorms about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast.
Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
A weak ridge will persist along the east coast while a broad surface trough
will be maintained across the south-west of the state. A cloud band with local
thunder is expected to remain over the state's southwest during Wednesday and
Thursday, but it is not likely to produce any rain until an upper trough moves
over the area on Friday. Fine over the remainder of the state except for some
isolated showers along the east coast, and isolated showers and thunderstorms
about the northwest and the Gulf of Carpentaria coast.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Saturday.
