For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high over the southeast Australia will move east into the Tasman Sea during
to today and strengthen the ridge along the east coast of Queensland. A surface
trough extends from the far northwest of the state to the southeast inland.
Forecast for the rest of Friday
Isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop in a band from the
northwest, across the central west and into the southeast interior of the state.
Isolated showers about the east coast north of Cardwell with isolated afternoon
showers and possible thunderstorms about the west coast of Cape York Peninsula.
Moderate to fresh NE to SE winds along the east coast, tending light to moderate
over the interior. Fine elsewhere. Very high fire dangers about the North West,
Channel Country, Central West and Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders
districts.
Forecast for Saturday
The high over the Tasman Sea will maintain a firm ridge along the east coast.
Isolated showers or early drizzle along the east coast in the moist onshore
flow. Isolated showers and thunderstorms about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast
and also about the southeast and southern interior. Fine over the remainder of
the state. Light to moderate NE to SE winds, fresh at times about the tropical
east coast.
Forecast for Sunday
The high will remain over the Tasman Sea and maintain a ridge along the east
coast. Isolated showers are again possible about the east coast north of about
Mackay. Early low cloud about the east coast may also produce some drizzle
areas. Isolated showers and thunderstorms about the Gulf Country and the
southern and southeast interior. Fine and very warm to hot over the remainder of
the state.
Forecast for Monday
The high will lie near New Zealand, but will still maintain a ridge and some
isolated showers about the east coast north of about Mackay. Showers and
thunderstorms will continue about the Gulf Country. Isolated showers and
possible thunderstorms are expected over the southeast and southern interior.
Fine and very warm to hot over the rest of the state.
Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
A weak northerly airflow will maintain very warm to hot conditions over much
of the state early in the new week, however a new high moving into the Tasman
Sea may ease temperatures by few degrees over the southeast districts from
around Wednesday. The new high should increase the onshore winds and showers
along the east coast from Wednesday or Thursday. Remaining mainly fine over the
remainder of the state except for some isolated showers and thunderstorms about
the northwest and southern interior.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Friday.
