For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high over the eastern Tasman Sea extends a weak ridge along the east coast
of Queensland. A surface trough extends from the far northwest to the southeast
inland.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
Fine over a lot of the state except for a few isolated showers about the
northeast coast, and some isolated showers and storms over the northwest,
central west and southern interior areas. Moderate to fresh NE to SE winds will
continue along the east coast. Light to moderate NW to NE winds over the eastern
districts, moderate to fresh S to SE winds over the western districts.
Forecast for Friday
A high will move over the Tasman sea from the west late in the day, and will
gradually strengthen the ridge up the east coast of Queensland. Most of the
state will be fine again, except for a few isolated showers about the northeast
coast and some isolated showers and storms in a band from the northwest, across
the central west, and into the southeast interior. Moderate to fresh NE to SE
winds along the east coast, tending light to moderate over the interior. Very
high fire dangers about the central and southwest districts.
Forecast for Saturday
The high over the Tasman Sea will maintain a firm ridge along the east coast.
Isolated showers along the east coast in the onshore flow. Fine and very warm
over the remainder of the state except for some isolated showers and
thunderstorms about the northwest, the southeast and the southern interior.
Light to moderate northeast to southeast winds.
Forecast for Sunday
The high will remain over the Tasman Sea and maintain a ridge along the east
coast. Isolated showers are again possible about the east coast. Fine and very
warm to hot over the remainder of the state, except for some isolated shower and
thunderstorms about the northwest and the southeast interior. Light to moderate
northwest to northeast winds.
Forecast for Monday
The high will lie near New Zealand, but will still maintain a ridge and some
isolated showers about the east coast of Queensland. Fine and very warm to hot
over the rest of the state, with just some isolated showers and thunderstorms
about the southeast interior and the northwest. Light to moderate northwest to
northeast winds.
Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
A weak northerly airflow will maintain very warm to hot conditions over much
of the state early in the new week, however a new high moving into the Tasman
Sea may ease temperatures by few degrees over the southeast districts from
around Wednesday. The new high should increase the onshore winds and showers
along the east coast from Wednesday or Thursday. Remaining mainly fine over the
state except for some isolated showers and storms about the northwest and the
southern interior.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Friday.
