Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Nov 9/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Fire Weather Warning has been issued for the Channel
Country for today.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high over the eastern Tasman Sea extends a ridge along the east coast of
Queensland. A surface trough over the far southwest of the state will move
eastwards and extend from the far northwest to the southeast inland by late
today.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
The surface trough will trigger isolated showers and thunderstorms in a band
from the northwest of the state, through to the southern inland parts of state.
Isolated showers and thunderstorms are also expected in the southwest of the
state at first before a clearance spreads through the Channel Country during the
day. A few showers will continue over the far northern and northeast tropics.
Fine elsewhere. Moderate to fresh E to SE winds will continue along most of the
east tropical coast. Light to moderate NE to N winds elsewhere before moderate
to occasionally fresh S to SE winds spread over the southwest and far west of
the state. A Severe Fire Danger in the Channel Country and Very High Fire Danger
in the North West, Central West and Maranoa and Warrego Districts.
Forecast for Friday
A new high will move into the Tasman sea and will begin to re-organize the
ridge along the entire east coast. Showers and thunderstorms, mostly isolated,
will occur in a band from the northwest to the Darling Downs area. A few showers
will continue over the far northern and northeast tropics with isolated late
thunderstorms on the west coast of Cape York. Fine elsewhere. Moderate to fresh
E to SE winds will spread along most of the east coast and shift light to
moderate NE over the inland. Light to moderate SE winds will continue over the
southwest and far west of the state.
Forecast for Saturday
The high will move into the central Tasman Sea and extend a firm ridge along
most of the east coast. Showers will occur in most east coast districts together
with moderate to fresh SE winds. Isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms
will occur over the southeast interior, the southern interior and possibly the
central interior. Isolated showers and thunderstorms will develop about the Gulf
of Carpentaria.
Forecast for Sunday
The high will remain near stationary over the Tasman Sea and extend a ridge
along most of the east coast. A few showers will occur in most east coast
districts north of Fraser Island while isolated showers and/or storms will occur
about the Gulf of Carpentaria. Isolated afternoon showers and storms may develop
about the higher ground of the southeast inland. Moderate to fresh E to SE winds
will occur along the east coast north of Fraser Island while light to moderate
NE winds will occur over the interior.
Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
The high over the Tasman Sea will be replaced by a new high on Tuesday. This
high will again reorganize the ridge along the east coast with winds becoming
moderate to fresh SE in most east coast districts. A few showers will occur in
most east coast districts. The trough over the interior will move eastwards
again in the early part of the week and extend from the west to the southeast
inland. Conditions in the middle levels over Queensland will remain relatively
stable so at best expect only isolated showers and storms over the inland near
the trough. Conditions will be hot over the interior in the N to NW winds into
at least the middle part of the week.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Thursday.
