Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Nov 8/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Fire Weather Warning has been issued for the Channel
Country, Central West and western parts of the Maranoa and Warrego
districts.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A slow moving high over the southern Tasman Sea will maintain a ridge along
the east Queensland coast over the next few days. A surface trough in the far
southwest of the state will move further east, reaching the Darling Downs
district by Friday then fall back west.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
Showers and thunderstorms continuing over western districts, fine over the
central and eastern interior. Showers about the east coast, increasing on the
northeast tropical coast. Early drizzle or showers about the central coast.
Moderate to fresh E to SE winds across the tropics. Light to moderate E to NE
winds generally over the remainder of the state. Freshening NE to NW winds over
the western interior during the day ahead of a southerly wind change.
Forecast for Thursday
A new high will move across N.S.W, developing the coastal ridge further along
the Queensland coast. The inland trough will extend east across the southern
border, maintaining showers and thunderstorms in the west. This activity will
also extend east across the southern interior and reaching the Darling Downs
district in the afternoon. Isolated showers and thunderstorms now developing
over western Cape York Peninsula late in the day. Showers persisting about the
east coast north of St Lawrence. Fine over the remainder of the state.
Forecast for Friday
As the southern high enters the Tasman Sea the ridge will intensify further
about the east coast and this will push the inland trough back west into the
southern interior. Showers and thunderstorms continuing near the trough but
developing further west in the afternoon. Thunderstorms will be more intense
over the Darling Downs district. Little change over the tropics and about the
east coast.
Forecast for Saturday
The southern high will continue to move east and maintain the ridge along the
east coast. Showers generally increasing about the east coast with freshening SE
winds. The inland trough continues to drift west. Showers and thunderstorms
developing further west with the trough passage but now weaker. Becoming fine
over the northwest of the state. Thunderstorms over the tropics confined to the
Gulf coast and on the west coast of Cape York Peninsula.
Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
The surface trough continues to drift west while an upper level ridge of
higher pressure develops over the interior. This will contract the thunderstorm
activity to the southern border near the trough on Sunday. However by Monday a
new upper level trough will move across southern Queensland with increasing
instability expanding the thunderstorm area. Added to this a new surface trough
will enter the southwest of the state capturing the old trough and extending the
thunderstorm activity back east into the Darling Downs. By Tuesday however, the
upper trough has passed and inland thunderstorm activity decreases to the
southern Darling Downs. Elsewhere showers decrease about the east coast and
reduced thunderstorms persisting about the gulf coast.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Wednesday.
