MELBOURNE - Nov 7/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high in the Tasman Sea is forecast to move east over the next few days while extending a ridge along the east Queensland coast. A surface trough lies to the southwest of the state and will remain slow moving today before moving west on Tuesday. Forecast for the rest of Monday Isolated showers and thunderstorms over western and southern districts, more widespread through the northwest and over the southern interior. Isolated showers through the northeast tropics. Fine elsewhere over central and southeast districts. Moderate to fresh SE winds along the east coast, tending NE'ly over the southern coast. Mostly moderate NW to NE winds over the interior. A Very High fire danger for the Channel Country. Forecast for Tuesday Isolated showers and thunderstorms in the far west and southwest. Isolated showers about the Peninsula, eastern tropics and the central coast, scattered about the North Tropical Coast. Fine elsewhere apart from early drizzle areas along the remaining east coast north of Fraser Island. Moderate to fresh SE winds along the east coast, tending NE'ly over the southern coast. Mostly moderate NW to NE winds over the interior. A Very High fire danger for the Channel Country and Central Highlands and Coalfields districts. Forecast for Wednesday The surface trough over central Australia will move into the far southwest of the state late in the evening. Showers and thunderstorms to continue west of about Normanton to Cunnamulla. The ridge of high pressure will persist along the east Queensland coast as the high remains slow moving over the Tasman Sea. Isolated showers along the east coast and adjacent inland north of about Gladstone, becoming more frequent over the northeast tropical coast. Possible early light drizzle about the remaining east coast north of Fraser Island. Fine elsewhere. Forecast for Thursday The surface trough is expected to move east, lying from the northwest of the state into the southeast interior and triggering showers and thunderstorms in western and southern districts. The high over the Tasman Sea will weaken, while a new high will develop over southeastern Australia and maintain the ridge along the east Queensland coast. Isolated showers over the Peninsula and eastern tropics, more frequent along the northeast tropical coast. Fine elsewhere apart from isolated early light showers on the Capricorn, Wide Bay and Sunshine coasts. Forecast for Friday A new high will develop in the Tasman Sea, gradually strengthening winds along the central east coast during the day. The surface trough will lie from the northwest to the southern interior, triggering showers and thunderstorms through these districts. Isolated showers over the Peninsula and eastern tropics. Fine elsewhere through the east and far southwest. Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday The surface trough and associated shower and thunderstorm activity will continue to extend from the northwest of the state into the southern interior. An upper trough will most likely move over the southern districts on Monday, increasing instability and thunderstorm activity. The high will move east across the Tasman Sea, extending a firm ridge along the east tropical coast with isolated showers along much of the east coast, especially in the tropics.
