MELBOURNE - Nov 6/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high in the Tasman Sea extends a ridge along the east Queensland coast. The high will maintain the ridge as it moves slowly eastwards over the next couple of days. An upper level trough will contract off the Queensland tonight and in the early hours of Monday. A surface trough lies to the southwest of the state and will remain slow moving on Monday, maintaining unstable conditions over much of the tropics and the interior of the state. Forecast for the rest of Sunday Cloudy with patchy rain and isolated thunderstorms over the Maranoa and western Darling Downs. Fine elsewhere over southeast districts. Mostly fine over the Capricornia and through the Herbert and Burdekin district with only isolated showers. Showers and thunderstorms over remaining parts of the interior and tropics, becoming more isolated late in the evening. Moderate to fresh SE winds along the east coast, tending NE'ly over the southern coast. Mostly light to moderate NW to NE winds over the interior, fresh at times over the Central West and southern interior. Forecast for Monday Isolated showers and thunderstorms over much of the tropics and western districts, becoming more widespread through the northwest and over the southern interior south of Charleville in the afternoon. Early patchy rain and isolated afternoon showers and possible thunderstorms over the southern Darling Downs and Granite Belt. Isolated light showers and drizzle areas near the Capricorn and Wide Bay coasts and the southern central highlands. Fine elsewhere over central and southeast districts. Moderate to fresh SE winds along the east coast, tending NE'ly over the southern coast. Mostly light to moderate NW to NE winds over the interior, fresh at times over the Central West and southern interior. A Very High fire danger over the Channel Country. Forecast for Tuesday The high will remain slow moving over the Tasman Sea and will continue to extend a ridge along the east Queensland coast. Instability will focus further west as a trough moves into central Australia. Isolated showers and thunderstorms will occur in the far west and through the southern interior in the moist, converging NE to NW wind flow ahead of the trough. Isolated showers will persist through the Peninsula, eastern tropics and the central coast. Fine conditions will occur elsewhere apart from early drizzle areas along the southern coast. Forecast for Wednesday The surface trough over central Australia will move into the far southwest of the state late in the evening. Showers and thunderstorms will therefore continue over areas west of about Normanton to Cunnamulla. The ridge of high pressure will persist along the east Queensland coast as the high remains slow moving over the Tasman Sea. Isolated showers will occur along the east coast and adjacent inland north of about Yeppoon, becoming more frequent over the northeast tropical coast due to a mid level trough moving into the area. Early light drizzle will occur on the Wide Bay and Sunshine coasts. Fine conditions are expected elsewhere. Forecast for Thursday The surface trough is expected to move slowly east to extend from the northwest of the state into the southeast interior. A band of shower and thunderstorm activity will therefore extend from the northwest into the southern interior and western Darling Downs. The high over the Tasman Sea will weaken. However, a new high will develop over southeastern Australia and maintain the ridge along the east Queensland coast. Isolated showers will persist over the Peninsula and eastern tropics, more frequent along the northeast tropical coast. Fine conditions will occur elsewhere apart from isolated early light showers on the Capricorn and Wide Bay coasts. Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday The surface trough and associated shower and thunderstorm activity will continue to extend from the northwest of the state into the southeast interior. An upper trough will most likely move north over the southern coast during the outlook period, increasing instability and producing isolated showers and possible thunderstorms over southeast districts. The new high will move east into the Tasman Sea, extending a firm ridge along the east tropical coast with isolated showers expected in the onshore wind flow, increasing to scattered with possible thunderstorms on the west Peninsula coast in the afternoon and evening hours. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Monday. Weather & WarningsAustraliaNew South WalesVictoriaQueenslandWarnings SummaryForecastsBrisbane ForecastQld.
