Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Nov 4/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high over the western Tasman Sea will continue to move eastwards. This high
will maintain a ridge along most of the east coast into at least the middle of
the week. An upper trough will move into and across the west of the state during
today and move off the east coast by late Sunday. In the wake of the upper
trough an upper ridge will become established across the state and then remain
in place well into the week. A broad surface trough will develop over central
Australia by the middle of the week.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Scattered showers and thunderstorms over the west and southern and central
interior. Areas of thundery rain over parts of the central interior and
south-west extending into the southern interior by evening. Showers about the
Wide Bay and Capricornia areas with isolated showers along the east coast north
of about Cardwell. Fine elsewhere. Moderate to fresh SE winds along much of the
east coast with light to moderate NE to N winds over the interior.
Forecast for Sunday
The upper trough will continue to move eastwards and move off the coast by
late in the day. Showers and/or storms will occur over most of the state with
only southern coastal districts remaining fine. Areas of thundery rain will
occur over the southern interior during the morning and then pass into New South
Wales during the afternoon. A clearance will develop over the south-west during
the afternoon and evening. Moderate to fresh SE winds will continue along much
of the east coast shifting NE to NW over the interior.
Forecast for Monday
An upper ridge will begin to build from the west resulting in more stable
conditions becoming established. So showers and storms will be only isolated at
best over the interior of the state while fine conditions will spread a little
further eastwards across the south-west and far west of the state. Isolated
showers will occur along the east coast north of about Yeppoon. Fine conditions
will continue in most southern coastal districts and the adjacent inland.
Moderate to fresh SE winds will continue along the east tropical coast and shift
NE to NW over the interior and along the southern coast.
Forecast for Tuesday
Fine conditions will occur in most areas under the influence of the upper
ridge. A few showers and storms will occur about the Gulf of Carpentaria and
over the far west and south-west of the state mostly triggered by a developing
broad trough over central Australia. Isolated showers will occur along the east
coast north of about Yeppoon. Moderate to fresh SE winds will continue along the
east tropical coast and shift NE to NW over the interior and along the southern
coast.
Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
The trough over central Australia will move into the far south-west of the
state by about Thursday and then become near stationary. So further showers and
storms will occur over the far west, south-west and southern inland border
areas. Isolated showers will continue along the east coast north of the Mackay
area at first and then north of about Cardwell; the showers contracting
northwards as the ridge from the high over the Tasman sea slowly weakens.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Saturday.
