Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Nov 2/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A weak high is located over the southern Coral Sea and is expected to decay
during Thursday. An inland trough extended from the north-west of the state to
the south-east and separated generally moist air to the north-east from dry air
to the south. This trough linked to a coastal front which was moving northwards
along the NSW coast. This front will move across the far south-east coast on
Thursday before decaying about the Bundaberg area on Friday. The high over the
Great Australian Bight will continue to move slowly eastwards and will move into
the Tasman Sea early Saturday. This high will reform and firm the ridge along
the east coast from Friday onwards. An upper low and trough will move across
central Australia and into the south-west and west of the state over the
week-end.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
Showers and thunderstorms over the north-west and central interior of the
state. Isolated showers about the east coast north of about Cardwell. Fine
elsewhere. Light to moderate SE to NE winds about the east coast and adjacent
inland becoming fresh NW to NE over southern waters. Moderate SW to SE winds
over the west of the state. A very high fire danger for the Channel Country
district.
Forecast for Thursday
Showers and storms will continue over the north-west and central interior.
Isolated showers about the east coast north of about Cooktown. Fine elsewhere
apart from isolated afternoon showers about the south-east corner as a moderate
to fresh S to SE change develops. Moderate SE to E winds over the far northern
tropics with light to moderate E to N winds over most remaining eastern
districts.
Forecast for Friday
The high reaches south-eastern Australia and reforms and firms the ridge
along the east coast. As well an upper trough will move into the west of the
state. So the showers and storms over the north-west and central interior of the
state will become more widespread and extend eastwards into the Highland and
eastern Goldfields area. Showers will become more widespread about the
south-east coast and adjacent inland while isolate showers will continue about
the east coast north of Cairns. Fine conditions elsewhere. Winds will become
moderate to fresh SE along much of the east coast and shift light to moderate N
to NE over the inland.
Forecast for Saturday
The high will move across the southern Coral Sea and maintain a firm ridge
along the east coast. The upper trough will tilt across western Queensland.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms will occur in most western districts with
rain areas and some moderate falls developing. Again a few showers will occur
over the south-east coast and adjacent inland. Isolated showers will occur along
the east coast north of Cardwell. Moderate to fresh SE winds along much of the
east coast with light to moderate NE to N winds over the inland.
Forecast for Sunday
The upper trough will decay while an upper low and new upper trough will move
into the west of the state. So further showers, storms rain areas with some
moderate falls will occur across the west of the state and also develop over the
far north. The ridge along the east coast will begin to weaken from the south so
fine conditions will occur along the southern coast and adjacent inland.
Moderate to fresh SE to E winds will continue along the east tropical coast and
become light to moderate SE to NE along the southern coast. Over the inland
winds will be light to moderate NE to N. A clearance will develop over the
south-west late in the day.
Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
The upper trough and low will move quickly east on Monday while weakening. So
the showers and storms with rain areas will ease during the morning over the
west of the state with only isolated showers and storms persisting into the
afternoon. During Tuesday and Wednesday a few showers and storms will continue
over the north of the state with mostly fine conditions in the south.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Thursday.
