MELBOURNE - Nov 1/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A trough lies from the northwest of the state into the Southeast Coast district. A slow moving high in the Great Australian Bight [1027 hPa] extends a ridge into southwestern Queensland and a weak ridge extends along the east coast. Forecast for the rest of Wednesday Scattered showers and thunderstorms over the Northwest and Gulf Country, more isolated over the Central West and southern Central Highlands. Isolated showers about the east coast north of about Bowen tending scattered showers about the north tropical coast this morning. Fine elsewhere. Moderate SE to NE winds about the east coast and adjacent inland, tending fresh about the tropical coast and fresh NW to NE over far southern waters. Moderate SW to SE winds over much of the interior. A very high fire danger for the Channel Country district. Forecast for Thursday The high in the Great Australian Bight will continue to weaken and move slowly east. The surface trough will persist through the interior of the state and move north over far southern Queensland waters during the day. This will trigger isolated showers about the far southeast of the state. Isolated showers also over Cape York Peninsula and northeast tropical coast in a moist wind flow. Showers and thunderstorms should become more widespread through the northwest due to the influence of a mid level trough over central Australia, with isolated showers and thunderstorms about the Central West and western Central Highlands and Coalfields. Fine elsewhere. Moderate SE to NE winds about the east coast and adjacent inland with moderate SW to SE winds over most of the interior. Forecast for Friday The high moves east into Victoria and weakens while the main surface trough lies from the northern Channel Country to the Fraser Coast across southern districts. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue in the northwest of the state and extend into the Central West and northern Channel Country in response to an upper trough in the southwest. Isolated showers and possible thunderstorms through the Central Highlands and Coalfields, Capricornia and Wide Bay districts. Isolated showers about Cape York Peninsula, the northeast tropics and the far southeast of the state. Fine elsewhere. Forecast for Saturday The high moves into the southern Coral Sea while the upper trough remains over western Queensland. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected in most western districts, tending isolated about Cape York and the Central West. Showers will increase about the north tropical coast in the moist onshore flow. Isolated showers and possible inland thunderstorms elsewhere. Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday The high will move slowly southeast across the Tasman Sea, extending a weak ridge onto the east coast of Queensland. The upper trough will move into eastern Queensland on Sunday and before located over the far northeast of the state on Monday and Tuesday. Isolated showers along much of the east coast throughout the outlook period, tending scattered in the tropics. On Sunday scattered showers and thunderstorms about the north of the state and much of the interior with mostly fine conditions in the southeast. On Monday isolated showers and thunderstorms in the north and only very isolated showers in the south. On Tuesday fine through most of the interior with isolated showers and thunderstorms about Cape York Peninsula and the northwest. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Wednesday.
