For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation An inland trough currently lies from the northwest of the state to the southeast interior. A low in the Tasman Sea will push a coastal trough through southern waters during Monday morning which will move north to the Capricornia coast by Monday evening. A high in the Great Australian Bight will remain slow moving and extend a firm ridge along the east Queensland coast on Monday in the wake of the coastal trough. The ridge along the east coast will also push the inland trough back west into the interior of the state. Forecast for the rest of Sunday Showers and thunderstorms will stretch in a band from the northwest through the central interior and into the southeast of the state. Thunderstorm activity will be more widespread and possibly severe over the southeast interior and thunderstorms may reach the southeast coast late this evening. Patchy high cloud in the far southwest with little or no rain. Fine over the remainder of the east of the state. Light to moderate SE to NE winds along the east coast north of Fraser Island, tending fresh SE'ly north of Cooktown. Moderate to fresh and gusty S'ly winds over the Channel Country and Warrego districts. Light to moderate N to NE winds elsewhere, fresh at times along the southern coast. Forecast for Monday Isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected in a band stretching from the northwest through the central interior and into southern central districts, with more widespread activity in the western Gulf Country. Scattered showers and possible thunder about the southeast of the state as a fresh to strong S'ly change moves north along southern coastal waters. The fresh to strong SE winds will gradually extend along remaining parts of the east coast as ridging strengthens. Mostly fine in the northeast of the state with only isolated light showers about the coast. High cloud will persist in the far southwest but with little or no rain. Moderate to fresh S to SE winds over the interior, gusty at times in the southwest. A Severe fire danger over the Channel Country and western Maranoa and Warrego districts. Very High fire danger in the eastern Maranoa and Warrego district. Forecast for Tuesday The strong S'ly wind change will weaken as it moves north into central waters. The high will remain stationary over the Great Australian Bight and weaken slightly during the day. A firm ridge will extend along the east Queensland coast, with isolated showers occurring about the exposed coast in the onshore wind flow tending scattered about the Central Coast. The inland trough will move further west and is expected to trigger isolated showers and thunderstorms over the northwest and central west, with more widespread activity in the western Gulf Country. Fine conditions are expected elsewhere apart from isolated showers over the southern tropical and central interior. Forecast for Wednesday The high in the Great Australian Bight will continue to weaken further. The east coast ridge will relax and winds will therefore ease over central and southern Queensland waters. The inland surface trough will persist and trigger scattered showers and thunderstorms over northwestern Queensland, with more isolated activity over the central west. Fine conditions are expected elsewhere apart from isolated showers about the east coast north of about Bowen where the onshore flow remains fresh. Forecast for Thursday The high in the Great Australian Bight will continue to weaken and move slowly east. The surface trough is likely to move further east and push through far southern waters during the day triggering isolated showers and possible thunderstorms about the far southeast of the state. Remaining coastal districts should remain fine with only isolated showers about the north tropical coast. A mid level trough will generate showers and thunderstorms about the west of the state northwest of about Longreach but the remainder of the interior should be fine. Isolated showers and possible thunderstorms are likely about the west coast of Cape York Peninsula. Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday The high will continue to move east across southeast Australia on Friday and into the Tasman Sea over the weekend. A mid level trough will maintain shower and thunderstorm activity over western parts of the state on Friday which are likely to extend further east in to the central and southern interior over the weekend. Eastern parts of the state should remain mostly fine with only isolated showers about the east coast, mainly north of Rockhampton, where the onshore flow remains fresh.
